My husband and I and our 18 year old twin son and daughter stayed here for a couple of nights in July. We were on a chauffeur driven guided vacation of southern Germany. Füssen itself is a beautiful town. I’d love to go back again and see somethings we didn’t get to see there. I highly recommend this hotel. It is idyllic, comfortable and CLEAN. (I love a clean room.) I feel my husband and I were lucky enough to end up with a room on the top floor, so we had both a window and skylight view of the town. I used to live in Germany and this hotel also had something I’d been missing for years - Rollladens! These are shades that go on the outside of the windows. They are quite common in Germany but not every hotel we stayed at had them - I’m guessing so as not to alter their historic architecture/design. Anyway, you can make a room pitch black with these, and theirs are remotely controlled as well. They have a little restaurant and patio downstairs where we went for one evening to have beer and dessert. I got Apfelstrudel and the garnish had something I’d never gotten to experience before - a Mirabelle. This is type of small yellow plum. I’d had the schnapps they make from these many times but I’d never encountered the actual fruit before. It was delicious. (Why do we not have these in the US??????) The staff that we encountered were polite; we didn’t really need much from them though. Everything was pretty much already taken care of. Thank you for a wonderful visit Hotel Sonne!!! Amy
We spent three nights here half way through our two-week vacation. We chose this hotel because it has a washer/dryer for guest use, a great location, and outstanding reviews. And we loved our stay! We arrived late at night and our welcome packets were ready for us at check-in. A garage parking spot was provided for the duration of our stay which was an added perk. We stayed in the Hohe Schloss double rooms and found the rooms to be clean, comfortable, and lovely. They were spacious by European standards, had lovely décor, and a balcony looking out to the castle and mountains. The soundproofing was excellent and we slept peacefully during our stay. The welcome packets included helpful information about the area – hiking maps, Romantic Road Maps, and information on the Fairy Tale Castles. Breakfast was plentiful each morning and included an assortment of eggs, meat, cheese, cereal, fruit, bread, and pastries. This hotel’s location is excellent. It’s an easy drive or a 45 min walk to the Fairy Tale Castles. There are hiking trails less than a 10 min walk. And it’s right in the heart of Fussen, near an adorable pedestrian only downtown with shopping and restaurants all around.
Beautiful rooms and very hospitable I will go again and can not wait. Great location, food and bar. Wish we had been there longer than one night. I recommend staying longer to enjoy this amazing hotel. So happy we found this on the internet.
Hotel Sonne is a great hotel! I must admit that at first it was not easy to find parking, or the hotel entrance, and so I recommend on reserving it in advance. Upon arrival the team was great, and welcoming. The hotel is uniquely designed, and the bar downstairs is wonderful. Breakfast was great and the team was great too. Variety was larger than you would usually find in the area, and again everything was of great design and style. On the negative I could mention that the rooms area very very small. I would expect that if you arrive to the area it would not be to sit in the room, therefore this is minor in my point of view. I highly recommend the hotel, great location, with great service.
Fussen is a surprisingly darling and charming town in southern Bavaria. We rented a car in Munich and drove there easily to stay the night, then tour Neuschwanstein Castle the next day. Fussen and Hotel Sonne were both wonderful. The hotel staff could not have been more helpful, the rooms were quirky and spacious, and the parking was onsite.
We were very pleased with this hotel. It was clean, comfortable and cozy. The staff was very helpful and accomodating. The location was also great. You could step right out into the downtown shopping area and only a few minutes drive to the castles. I would not hesitate to stay here again.
this hotel is a 3 minute walk from the station, right next to the main shopping street. The reception was very helpful and welcoming. The rooms are very eclectically decorated and quite amusing.Bathroom fittings and all are good.
My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights and were very impressed with the hotel. It is conveniently located in the center of Fussen. A short walk from the train/bus station and close to shops and restaurants. The decor is a bit odd but the room was very comfortable and we had a lovely balcony. The staff was very helpful with directions, getting us a Fussen card (which gave us free bus fare to the castles in addition to a discount on admittance) and anything else we asked for. Breakfast is quite a large and varied spread which we thoroughly enjoyed. While we did not use it, the hotel also has a spa area and small exercise facility. They also had a washer and dryer in the basement which we were able to use free of charge. A big bonus while travelling! We would absolutely stay here again if in the area.
The rooms were clean and comfortable. Our room overlooked the cute and colorful town. The decor is odd - very avant-garde. Frankly, it's just plain odd -but the location is perfect 10 minutes from Neuschwanstein. The best part is the included breakfast! There were fresh pastries, sausages, bacon, eggs, cold cuts, cheese, yogurt, fresh squeezed orange juice, coffee, tea, bread and rolls. The selection was impressive and the quality was great. The staff were very friendly.
This place is close to Neuschwanstein Castles and right in middle of town by all restaurants. The staff is very friendly and all speak English and many other languages. Catalina was a great server and made our drinks and dinner very pleasant. The breakfast buffet was unbelievable. The Bar has great selection of all alcohol.
