What you can expect
Set out for the ultimate Alaskan adventure, following a scenic helicopter flight over snow-capped peaks with an unforgettable dog sled ride. Soar from Girdwood to the snowfield at Punch Bowl Glacier, where you can meet the dogs, play with puppies, chat with the mushers, and then zip around the snow on a sled.
Make your own way to the helipad and climb aboard a comfortable, capable Robinson helicopter. Lift off and gaze out the window as your pilot flies into the heart of the Chugach Mountains. Snap photos of the untouched wilderness as you fly over ancient glaciers, winding rivers, and dense evergreen forests, and then touch down on Punch Bowl Glacier, which sits 3,200 feet (975 m) above sea level.
Spend an hour and a half or so on this massive snowfield, where you can meet approximately 60 Alaskan Huskies, play with fluffy puppies, and talk with the mushers about how the dogs are bred and trained. Learn all about the Iditarod Trail and its namesake race, during which mushers and their teams of dogs endure a journey of 1,150 miles (1,850 km) across ice and snow. Experience the thrill of the race yourself with a dog sled ride around the glacier, and then step back onto the helicopter for your return flight ot Girdwood.
