The tech industry might draw you from Spokane to Portland, or you might visit to witness the city's harmony with nature. In addition to driving, you can take a Spokane Transit Authority bus to Spokane International Airport (GEG). The 70 minutes it takes to fly from Spokane to Portland International will grant you views of the Cascade Mountains' volcanic titans.
If you stay in one of its many downtown hotels, you will understand why locals call Portland the "Bridge City." Portland straddles the Willamette River, and on downtown's eastern edge, you can walk or bike the trail at Governor Tom McCall Waterfront Park, which travels under four of the bridges that cross the river. In the hills west of downtown, the Arlington Heights neighborhood hosts the International Rose Test Garden where visitors can appreciate over 500 rose varieties. The parking lot for this attraction also serves the Portland Japanese Garden where the city honors Japan's ancient landscaping sensibilities. Nearby, kids will adore the Portland Children's Museum.
The Portland International Airport (PDX) baggage area and local transportation options are centrally located in its single terminal. Portland's TriMet transit system offers light rail from the airport to East Portland, downtown and the city's western suburbs. Portland's climate is temperate; January's average high temperature is 47 degrees Fahrenheit, and the hottest summer temperatures can reach 81 degrees. Each May and June, residents and visitors enjoy a variety of outdoor gatherings during the Portland Rose Festival.
