Fly to Merced Regional Airport (MCE) to enjoy beautiful Merced, California. This Northern California town is known as the Gateway to Yosemite National Park. With museums, landmarks, and tours, visitors can learn about the history of the San Joaquin Valley and Merced County. There is a wealth of shopping opportunities, and the arts are celebrated by the locals year-round.
History buffs will enjoy the Merced Courthouse Museum, where visitors can explore 8,500 square feet of exhibits. Merced boasts a huge selection of shopping venues; the Merced Mall has over 60 stores. For local small boutiques and shops, stop by Downtown Merced. Streets G through R boast antique shops, specialty food stores, clothing retailers and more. Take the Downtown Walking Tour for the real Merced experience or pick up the Highway 140 Audio Tour for your drive to Yosemite National Park, which is a 69-mile drive east on Highway 140. Food enthusiasts frequent Hilmar Cheese Company, and wine lovers enjoy Vista Ranch and Cellars.
After you fly to Merced Regional Airport (MCE), you can stay at one of the many hotels located near Highway 140. For local travel, Amtrak takes passengers through San Joaquin Valley. Several bus lines provide transportation throughout the city. Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System (YARTS) travels to Yosemite and several stations along the way. Merced provides many venues and events for the arts, the most popular of which is the annual Shakespeare Fest in August.
