Boryspil International Airport (KBP) is located 18 miles east of Kiev, and when you fly to KBP, the SkyBus will be your most effective mode of public transport into the city.
You can purchase tickets from the driver, and the bus will go first to Kharkiviska Metro Station, and then on to Pivdenny Railway Station, which is Kiev s main station. There are also a few companies offering long distance bus connections from the airport to other areas of Ukraine. Car rental is also available.
Kiev was first established in the fifth century, which makes it one of the oldest cities in Eastern Europe. Because of its history, there is a lot to see, including the stunningSt Sophia s Cathedral and Khreschatyk Street, the main drag, is often full of crowds watching entertaining street performances.
The city has a good selection of budget restaurants and street vendors selling Kvas; a popular drink brewed from bread. Kiev sits beside the Dnieper River, and so, it has many natural beaches and lovely islands to visit, such as Hydropark Island.
Ukrainian is written in the Cyrillic alphabet, so for reading signposts or trying to communicate with locals, having a phrasebook is really helpful.
Tourist maps are available in the airport and at a number of city center kiosks. Make sure you grab both English and Cyrillic version phrasebooks, so the locals can help you with directions, if necessary.
