They require you to telephone them prior to arrival in order to provide your credit card details for incidentals; otherwise, they refuse to provide the door code for the room. We were told by staff that the hotelier does not trust customers who book via third-party sites to not steal items from the room. It is very insecure to give details over the telephone in such a manner, and if this was a requirement, then this should have been made clear at the time of booking. We had two rooms booked, and both were in need of some maintenance. We emailed the staff on the night of check-in, informing them that the balcony insect screen was torn in one room, plus a curtain was missing in the other room (making it awkward to sleep on the pull-out couch), but they did not reply. The bed creaked every time one moved. The balcony has no furniture, not even basic chairs to sit on in order to enjoy the views. We were woken up at 07:10 am by the lawn being mowed outside. We messaged the hotel with feedback to say that the timing of such gardening activities should be taken into consideration as not to disturb guests who might be still sleeping. The hotel responded apologising; however, they stuck to a bizarre stance, claiming that mowing at this hour of the day actually causes the “least disruption”. It is a shame as the location is wonderful, and the views magnificent.

Scenic place to stay with great food!

Room was nice, comfortable with great small deck. Food downstairs is wonderful. Close to the ferry.

Disappointed

Room was good, bed good, view was excellent. However, the steps up to room were extremely difficult. I was told that there was an elevator and there wasn't. I had difficulty reaching people on the telephone..

Hoghly recommend for couples for a getaway!

I was thoroughly impressed by the size of the room. It was very homey feeling. Very clean! I wasn't a big fan of the bed. It was a little stiff but it was okay. I loved the view from the balcony!! Amazing sunsets too! The restaurant had an amazing atmosphere, super friendly people, and the food was phenomenal! Definitely recommend!

Definitely will be back

It's such a nice place to stay. Very remote, yet convenient. Perfect for relaxing and it's immaculate. The rooms have a lovely view and the restaurant was delicious.

This is a very unique spot to stop and enjoy some time away. Its location is fairly remote- there’s not a lot around it but the restaurant downstairs is very good and obviously popular with the locals. The room was clean and comfortable and had everything you could need. The bathroom was fine- please consider a lid for the toilet seat! The WiFi wasn’t great, but I was okay with having some down time away from the electronics. The area is beautiful in the morning and quite peaceful. You can hear people in the hall and in the adjoining rooms but I had a small fan to drown that out. All in all, definitely a nice spot to stay if you’re in the area.

I stayed here for one night during a visit to the Jamestown area. There is a free car ferry from Jamestown across the James River to Surrey, which is very close to the hotel. The rooms are really nice with great views of the river and the sunset. The price was very reasonable. Be aware that there is no breakfast and no real place to go get breakfast so bring your own food. There is a refrigerator and coffee maker with coffee. One other small point-I found it annoying that their management company called me one day prior on my phone to get my credit card number and email address. I was in the middle of touring at Jamestown and I really did not want to talk on the phone. All of this could’ve been handled via email in advance and the information should have been available from Expedia.
