I’ll begin with the worst part of our stay, then share a few other concerns. We reserved the property for a 2 night stay. The air conditioner was not working properly the 1st night but it was tolerable. We left the unit early the next morning, left the AC set at the required temperature per the instructions and returned at 8:00-ish to 84 degrees and the AC not working. We kept messaging the host but got no response. For 2+ hours we kept trying to cool the unit but even with opening windows (with no screens) we only managed to lower the temp by 1 degree. We messaged the host that we could not stay the night, packed and left. We still had heard nothing from him. The following morning he still was not answering messages.
The property is on an isolated dead end street that gave me concern when we first arrived, and there was a truck in the parking lot with busted windows which increased my worries. The unit is, however, clean and well appointed.
It is VRBO’s policy to give refunds if you are unable to stay for your entire reserved booking due to issues with the AC or other advertised amenities. I have been working with VRBO for weeks now with no solution to this issue. I have at no point received communication from the host regarding anything other than him asking for a 5-star review. We’ve requested a refund for one of the two nights and many hours have been spent dealing with this, beginning with the 2+ hours we first spent trying to make the unit tolerable for our 2nd night.
