This property is 111 years old which makes it quiet unique. It seems to be holding up well for it's age.

When I first arrived, I was told that the hotel would not honor the reservation I made months ago through Expedia. I booked a large double room. At check in, the hotel downgraded me to a tiny single room with a bed smaller than a twin. They refused to provide a refund of the price difference, but they provided a free dinner instead. The hotel had never contacted me in the months between the time I made the reservation and the time I checked in to inform me that my room was not available. If they had, I would have booked another room elsewhere. At 7 pm on the day of, however, it is far too late in a very remote area to find alternative accommodations. The hotel must have known this, but failed to tell me that my reservation had, in effect, been canceled. After I checked in and went to sleep, another guest entered my locked room with a key and claimed it was her room. I screamed when I was suddenly awoken and the woman left before I could ask any questions. When I reported this to the hotel manager, she told me it was not possible for this to happen (guess I imagined it?) and everyone there is nice so I have nothing to worry about. The fact that this happened was appalling enough. The response from management was totally unacceptable. I have never had such a horrible experience from a hotel. Please for your own safety, never stay here.

Old world charm with modern comforts.

Old school (1914) hotel with beautiful views of the Saudafjord. New owner is updating the common areas (rooms are modern). Restaurant and bar are small and limited in selection but everything they offer is good quality. Close to Sauda centrum but far enough from the city to offer peace and quiet.

Grandame hotel that has seen better days

This is a lovely old grand hotel that was established around 1912 as a hunting lodge for people from Stevanger. The hotel is situated on a hillside about three minutes by car from the center of Sauda and looks out over the Sauda Fjord. For a splurge, ask for room 202, which is spacious with a lovely view of the fjord and hills and is only one floor above ground level. (Note that there are wide stairways but no elevators so the third floor rooms may not be for everyone.) The hotel has a dining room with a limited, but very pleasant menu for breakfast and for dinner. Service in the hotel and dining room is very nice.
