The stay itself was fine, the property is very nice, the room clean, breakfast is generous. There was one negative that stood out that will probably keep us from returning.
My wife and I, and her cousin, reserved two rooms. After a long drive in traffic, we were travel weary but arrived maybe an hour and change before check in time. We were told we could check in to our rooms, which were ready, but there was a $35 fee for an early check in. We hesitated but agreed. We found our rooms, dropped bags off, washed hands, and headed out for lunch. It then occurred to us that we just paid $35 to wash hands. We did not sit or lay on the bed, turn on the TV, or otherwise disturb the room. In no other hotel in our frequent travel have we been charged for early entry to our room. The room is either ready or it's not. I brought this up with the desk clerk later, he apologized, but it was hotel policy and out of his hands. To me, we were just tired travelers who were taken advantage of.
