Unfortunately for the price paid, there was nothing special about this place. I have stayed in a 2* which offered more. And at100 euros a night its disappointing. The owner was extremely pleasant, but needs to increase the comfort and take note. On website there was a bar, but never opened, tv chanels in the room only 5! No no drinks ie like a bottle of water promised with room, had to drink from bathroom tap. Internet stopped at midnight and only came on in yhe morning. Never tried the pool, as it has no steps, only a metal ladder. Breakfast very simple. Staff also pleasant. The daily cleaning of befoom never happened, so towels etc never changed. Unfortunately i will not be wasting my money again with this stay.

Amazing experience.

Excellent place. Interesting and tastefully decorated rooms. Lovely breakfast. Host very helpful. Garden and pool area are fantastic lots of places to sit and relax. Located in the dark sky area, skies were amazing with plenty of out door space and comfort to watch them. Very close to Monsaraz and river beach area. Would have liked to have stayed longer would definitely return.

An exceptional location, an enjoyable property

When we arrived we were told, "this is our home, it has been for 8 generations, please feel it is yours", and it was. A rambling Portuguese farm house, it was exquisitly decorated from around the world and back in time. Even in late fall the gardens and courtyard still had blooms. But the quality of accomodations and exquisite cleanliness were a background for the staff and owners who were always a step ahead of our needs. Of course we wanted to see Monsaraz and the surrounding area, but we also wanted some time to rest, read, and do some business on the Internet, we found it all here. I do hope we have the opportunity to return - perhaps in spring when flowers cover the hills.

Nice agritourism hotel

This hotel is only a few minutes from Monsaraz a beautiful place to visit in Alentejo Portugal. The swimming pool and surrounding gardens are very nice. The room was comfortable but not more and the bathrooms was very clean! . Breakfast was adequate. We really enjoyed our stay at Monte Alerta

This hotel was wonderful- a peaceful spot a few minutes from the hilltop town. We enjoyed the sheep grazing around the perimeter, and wish we had more time to relax by the pool. A historic home with modern, clean conveniences.

Great sprawling house with a B&B feel. We were welcomed warmly and told to make ourselves completely at home. Sergio had great recommendations for local activities and dining options. We thought two days would be plenty in rural Alentejo, but it wasn't enough. Breakfast was delicious. We would gladly book this one again.

Wonderful experience by a wonderful family

Absolutely wonderful stay at this hotel that looks like a large estate with so much history, but feels like a very warm and cozy B&B. The entire family was welcoming, but Sergio really went above and beyond to make our stay great. We got the double room and I had a wonderful view to the castle. The other room also had a lovely scenic view. Thespace was comfortable. Breakfast was great. There are a number of great things to do there. We already decided that when we visit another nearby area of Portugal, we will still stay again at the Monte Alerta.

Nice and peaceful area, relaxing stay!

Hotel was great, we had a big balcony to ourselves which we saw the full moon reflect on the lake at night. Comfy bed and spacious rooms. The owners were friendly and helpful. The area was very safe to go for walks, even at night, although there is a slight walk uphill to the town Monsaraz, so our hire car was handy for that. There is a newly opened observatory which I recommend a visit, where an astrophysicist will guide you through the night sky. Overall very pleasant stay!

Excellent rural 'hotel'

The Monte Alerta is not a hotel as such, but a 'rural retreat'. We stayed for just one night. The owners were incredibly friendly and supportive, the room was excellent, it had reasonably fast free wifi, and the breakfast was a massive buffet. It would be particularly good for families, as there were so many other things to do and look at. It is just a few minutes from the lovely village of Monsaraz. Highly recommended.

Monte Alerta is a rural hotel/resort just outside of Monsaraz (1km from castle). Our stay was perfect. Beautiful and peaceful. The hosts provided many great tips for exploring the area. So glad we chose to stay here!
