Stellock is a large comfortable house in a secluded and stunning location in the gently rolling hills of the Machars peninsula. From its large and well kept garden there is a view out to the sea. There is plenty of kitchen space, big sofas to lounge on and the conservatory is wonderful! Add comfortable beds and very good Wi-Fi and TV reception.
We spent a week here and our only complaint is that it wasn’t a month. Admittedly the weather was good which certainly makes a difference but this place is just perfect for exploring this magical part of Scotland.
You can easily walk to the woods around the White Loch of Myrton and then on to Drumfad bridge and up over the Fell of Barhullion just behind the house. From here the view is magnificent, from the Rhins of Galloway to the Isle of Man and round to the hills of the Forest of Galloway with Merrick looming in the North.
The otter monument to Gavin Maxwell is nearby on a scenic headland. We visited in May when the many woodlands round about were full of bluebells and wild garlic. We watched swallows, martins and, in the evenings, bats.
Isle of Whithorn is lovely with its rugged point and charming harbour. Have a coffee at St. Ninian’s Tearoom. Try fish and chips at The Steampacket.
Superb accommodation. Highly recommended.
