I received email from manager that hotel is closed ( day before staying in hotel) due to some government issues and got directed to other hotel . Even though Chitra was helpful it wasn’t hotel I would chose and it added stress to my 32 hrs flight not knowing exactly where I’m staying .

Everything about the place was great. The only small disappointment was that there was no direct access to the beach. The manager/owner was extremely helpful and the breakfast very good too.

Excellent choice

The accommodation was excellent. We arrived early but were welcome to get changed, leave our bags, and gather information from the extremely helpful owners. Wonderful views along the beach from the reception area. Our rooms were a good size with small balcony, very well appointed, with tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms as well as in the shared lounge. Helpful staff to assist with requests, and to serve the fantastic breakfast. Continental and curries etc -everything freshly made and organic. Slightly difficult to find restaurants for the evening meal, but close to trains, and tuktuks always available.

An oasis in the middle of chaos!

We loved this hotel and were sorry to only spend one night here. Fantastic views over Colombo and right next to the railway station. Really welcoming and helpful manager.

THOUGHTFUL OWNER & ATTENTIVE STAFF

My first stay at this apartment was August 2017 and this is my second stay. On my first stay, I was given a room on the 16th floor as there were only two of us. My second stay was at an exclusive apartment for 5 people. It was a cosy apartment which gave us the home feeling. Chitra was very considerate to give us this apartment considering that there were 5 of us without additional cost.. The breakfast is still as scrumptious as before. Staff were friendly and attentive. I prefer the room on the 16th floor due to its luxurious interior decoration and breakfast were served just outside the room. However, the room on the 10th floor gave us a lot of privacy which I am thankful for. It is always a pleasant stay at The Penthouse Above Sea.

Wonderful modern apartment, fab views

First time to Sri Lanka, although not in Colombo for long - this was a wonderful place to start and end our holiday. The staff are so warm and friendly, with a “nothing is too much trouble” attitude. The apartment itself is pretty awesome too. Light, airy, with modern interior and fabulous views of the city and ocean. The place was immaculately clean also. Breakfast was incredibly generous and very delicious, with traditional Sri Lankan dishes (the curries were just spot on!) to name but a few. In fact, there is nothing we could find fault with -apart from the fact we didn’t book long enough! Thank you guys for all your help and great recommendations of other sights to see in Sri Lanka. We will be back :)

Lovely hotel close to the beach

Absolutely fabulous

We could not fault our stay Everything was outstanding and the attention to detail impeccable. The hosts, Chitra and her husband, were second to none and went above and beyond. Big thanks go out to their efficient staff and excellent chef. Such delicious food.

Stylish apartment on the coast

Great staff, comfortable accommodation overlooking Colombo. Breakfast was excellent, taken on the balcony. Staff were really helpful when we had problems with our flight. The train station is nearby which was the quickest way to get to town. Just a warning it is 1.5 hours from the international airport due to the traffic. We walked up the beach to mount lavinia which is unfortunately pretty littered and run down.

The entrance is hard to find, but worth the look.

The rooms were clean with new funrishings, and the owners are super friendly. The free breakfast is cooked each morning to include local dishes.

Great service and quality accommodation

Couldn't fault the cleanliness, service and quality offered. The owners and staff went out of their way to help us and the place is fantastic. A little out of central Colombo but an easy tuk tuk or train into town

Fantastic Hotel

We were travelling in India and my mother-in-law was flying out to Sri Lanka to meet us. She is rather elderly and not used to travelling on her own so we were anxious to find somewhere friendly and safe. We could not have done better than pick this hotel. They arranged for mother to be picked up from the airport and treated her so well in the two days before we arrived. The owners are very professional and have a wealth of hotel management between them. Everything is done well. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are immaculate and well furnished. There is a good sized pool on the roof which was a pleasure to use after a hot day visiting the sites in Colombo. Breakfast is buffet style but eggs to order are available. It was my birthday when i was there and they arranged a cake and even played Happy Birthday on the stereo that morning. They go that extra mile. We arranged our onward travel from Colombo to tour Sri Lanka through them and it has worked out really well. They sat down with us and worked out what we wanted and made suggestions to help out. This was our tenth hotel on our travels through India and Sri Lanka so it is not as if we have no experience. I would highly reccoment this hotel to anyone visiting Colombo. It is close to the sea and the city is easily reached by tuktuk or taxi. There is always hot water and the wifi is good.

Lovely hotel

The couple that run the hotel are lovely and all their staff is fantastic. The rooms are clean and nicely appointed. The dinner is delicious. The view of the sea from the balcony is gorgeous. A quick walk to Dehiwala Beach. The hotel has the benefit of a supermarket, atm, and cafe on the bottom floor. Transportation to the hotel is easy. The bus stops in front, tuktuks are readily available, it's close to the Dehiwala train stop, and it's easy to get an Uber. A great get away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Colombo. Wish I could have stayed longer.

Great spot if you want beach & city!

We really enjoyed our stay here - it's a fantastic place & the owners are lovely. Utterly delicious breakfast & good pool. Wifi was a bit intermittent, but otherwise our room was beautifully decorated, clean & comfortable.

Very comfortable place to stay

We stayed in a Premier Room with Breakfast included and Free WiFi. In this room there was a very comfortable king bed; bedside tables; reading lamps; cable TV; tea/coffee making facilities; water jug & drinking glasses; bar fridge; room safe large enough for a laptop; power board to take all kinds of plugs; adequate storage; a couch; desk with mirror and stool; good sized wardrobe with drawers & hanging space; air-conditioning; good sized bathroom with shower only; make-up light above the bathroom sink; vanity kit; liquid soap as well as shampoo & conditioner combined; pool towels; bathroom scales; thongs & sarongs; and finally a shared balcony with a view of the city skyline. An iron and an ironing board were made available upon request and also a laundry service upon request. The shared facilities included a large communal area for breakfast and another sitting area with magazines & books; mid-sized swimming pool on the rooftop; chairs and tables and chairs on another balcony with sea views. The only items missing from our room were storage space in the bathroom and a washing line in the bathroom. The breakfasts were fantastic especially the Sri Lankan food and the selection always good. Lastly, I cannot speak highly enough of this property for a short or long stay when in Colombo. We will definitely be looking at nowhere else to stay when visiting Colombo again.

Comfortable, clean and tidy - out of city centre

Lovely new room in high rise apartment in between beach restaurant area and main city centre. The Penthouse Above Sea have thought of all of your needs. Very clean, lovely art in common areas and super comfortable bedding. Breakfast was one of the best of our trip with very friendly staff. Train station at your doorstep. Nice to be just out of the major hub bub although you're still in it as Colombo is a sprawling urban centre.

Chitra and Ranjith are awesome hosts. They are very good and professional! When we arrived there, it was almost 9:00 PM and we were so tired. However, Chitra served us fresh passion fruit juice which refreshed us in a minute. It was dark outside as it was a night time then, but when we woke up next morning; the view of sea was just breathtaking!!!!! It is located at amazing location - minute away from Dehiwala Railway station, Tuk-tuk, Buses bases are nearby. 20-30 minute ride to Colombo Fort Railway station depends on the Traffic. If you guys want to go to Galle, you can catch a train at Mt Lavinia Railway station which is next to Dehiwala Railway Station. Hosts serve amazing Breakfast everyday. I bet you will get stuffed in the morning so that you don't require anything for the whole day! Food quality is superb... Three ladies who serve in the Penthouse are amazing and are so kind. They will serve you Tea/Coffee in the Balcony as well where you can enjoy the nice view of Colombo Sea shore. I give 10 out of 10 to these people. Please visit them as they are very polite, helpful. Both Chitra and Ranjith helped us in designing our itinerary for Colombo City Tour + Galle trip. They will also arrange the Taxi for you to go where you want. And believe me Taxi arrives at the doorstep in a minute. When you visit Sri Lanka (Colombo) - Do visit this place and live here is what my strong recommendation for you guys. Slightly away from City's traffic.

Excellent hotel close to city attractions

A haven in a bustling city, Chitra, Ragnit and staff doing an amazing job, their clients are priority and made sure we were always comfortable. All excursions organised for us made it so much easier. Really missing it there with those smiling faces.
