Located in the quiet countryside, away from the busy roads and crowds, this property was an oasis. We stayed for 1 night while hiking the Via Francigena and wish we could have stayed a week. The dining was incredible, with a 5 star chef in the kitchen. The garden was green and beautiful with a view of the valley below and the mountains in the distance. The room was big and comfortable. Thank you for the hospitality!

Stefanie & Roberto are fabulous hosts. He’s the chef; she’s the baker and they’re both great at what they do. They helped us by drawing out a map for a driving tour with restaurants in little villages that was just so enjoyable.

We loved absolutely everything about this property, the accommodations, the food, and our hosts Roberto and Stefania! The property was quiet, private and so relaxing. We enjoyed breakfast out in the garden, which was gorgeous and had a stunning view. The two dinners cooked by Roberto were by far the best we had in Italy! We really enjoyed Stefania and Roberto’s hospitality. They were so warm and made us feel so welcome. They also were eager to help us find recommendations of things to do in the area. The location itself was about 15 minutes from Siena and a great spot to escape the hustle of the towns. 10/10 would go back!

Amazing B&B in Siena with super friendly hosts

Amazing B&B with the most friendly hosts. A little off in the countryside, but well worth the stay. Roberto’s breakfast consisted of delicious local meats and cheeses and we had the opportunity to dine-in at night. Roberto and his wife Stephania was kind enough to show us where to eat and see in Siena. I was so sad to leave because they made us feel so welcome.

There are so many great things about La Canonica: its beautiful location on the edge of national park; its closeness to Siena, the town is about 6 miles away; the great rooms and super food, but best of all are the hosts, really friendly and helpful.

A lovely retreat and authentic Tuscan experience

Staying at La Canonica with Robert and Stefania and Jessica was a quintessential Tuscan countryside experience! About a 15 min drive from Siena, it is tucked away among the hills in a national park. The house is large and gracious, but has a cozy, homey feel. Our room was wonderful, set on a corner with French windows opening on two sides, looking out on the beautiful Tuscan countryside. We enjoyed the sitting area with arm chairs and a table with coffeemaker and snacks to relax and read. We loved the authentic historical feel and totally real Italian culture and hospitality. Roberto and Stefania were warmly welcoming and very happy to look after our every need and desire! They even went to the neighboring dairy farmer and picked up a wheel of the delicious pecorino cheese that they were serving at breakfast! Their breakfasts were the best, with a variety of Italian meats and cheeses, fresh omelets to order and bottomless cups of wonderful Italian coffee every morning! In three weeks in Italy La Canonica was our favorite stay.

We'd never been to a B&B before, and after this experience, I'm not sure any other B&B can now live up to my lofty expectations. The stay was amazing, from the location to the facilities to the food and most importantly, the hosts! La Canonica di San Michele is a gem tucked away in a (very) small village atop a hill in the Tuscan countryside, so it feels remote yet it is only about 10-15 minutes away from medieval Siena. The inn was well-aportioned with comfortable and homey amenities that truly made one feel as if they were a guest in a friend's home. The grounds feature great views of the surrounding countryside and a small church dating from the 1300s attached to the inn! Breakfast was always an impressively expansive spread with homemade cake, custom omelettes, espresso, cappuccino, fresh fruit, etc. We had to leave very early (6:15 AM) on the last day, but rest assured - breakfast was ready and waiting. We also ate dinner here one night, which definitely exceeded our expectations. It felt less like a restaurant and more like being in someone's dining room - antipasto, pasta, meat, dessert, wine, everything. All made to order by Roberto. Which leads me to my last point - the hosts Roberto and Stephanie are amazing. They are super friendly and welcoming and we truly felt like guests in their home. Roberto even provided us with a great itinerary for our lone day of sightseeing. Can't recommend enough and will be back if we ever visit Tuscany again!

Our Stay was too short!!

Roberto and Stefania were the best hosts anyone can ask for. From the minute we got there, until we left the service was absolutely wonderful. We only stayed two nights and wished we would have stayed longer, as we were treated like family. It was a nice change of pace to get to relax from all the city touring we did in Venice, Florence and Rome. Roberto’s place is only an hour drive from Florence and a short distance to Siena and wineries for day trips. We also enjoyed their two dogs. All their food is homemade and is delicious. The breakfast is a nice touch and to be able sit outside with all the awesome views was amazing. We can’t thank Roberto and Stefania enough for their hospitality, we were sad we had to say goodbye.

Stephania and Roberto are special in a part of Tuscan paradise. If you want to get deep into Tuscany, with Tuscan hosts, in a beautiful home and explore the medieval towns, this is the place. Make sure your GPS is working, it’s not the easiest to find the first time. Roberto has great taste in Tuscan wines, and they are both great chefs and great people. Molto Buono!!

Idyllic location in the heart of Tuscany

We spent 6 fantastic nights with Claudia and Carlo at La Canonica di Fungaia. The B & B is at the top of a track road with glorious views over the Tuscan landscape. It's surrounded by fields, fruit trees and geraniums with a church attached. Breakfast is a delight with helpful suggestions each morning from Claudia about possible itineraries and places to see. The swimming pool is a real treat. The only regret is that we didn't spend more time enjoying the facilities because there is so much to do in the area. Would strongly recommend if you like tranquility and negotiating track roads. We will definitely return without any hesitation at all. Top choice.

15-20 minutes away from Siena,Good base to explore the area, comfortable, quite and clean. Very friendly and helpful owners. Buetiful country views from your bedroom or garden. Defiantly need to have a car.nearest facilities like shoping...etc Siena.

Absolutely brilliant

What a great place !!! We were here for 5 nights and it was fabulous. Fungaia is basically a 6 house village so you are in the middle of nowhere and can enjoy the peace and quite but it is a really central location for easy trips to Sienna, San Gimignano, Monteriggioni and the Chianti region. We also had a really nice day just exploring the local area as there are some nice walks from the La Conica itself. Claudia and Carlos are wonderful hosts - couldn't do enough for us - including a load of washing ! They gave us plenty of great tips on places to go, restaurants and directions for walks etc. Claudia also gave us a tour of the church which is part of their property - simply stunning. Our only regret was that we could not stay longer. Hope to get back in the future, a must stay if in Tuscany.

Dream Stay

This what you hope for when dreaming of a Tuscan vacation; a converted church with beautiful rooms, gorgeous views, flowers and fields, and lovely Hospitality from Claudia and Carlo. We only wish we could have stayed far more than 3 days. The pool is a bonus...after a long day of sight seeing, a late afternoon swim readied ourselves for the evening. If you enjoy bed and breakfasts, you will not be disappointed.

Countryside Delight

Claudia and Carlo are wonderful hosts and go well out of their way to make sure that your every need is met. They have done a great job of turning the very old building into a first rate B&B. The rooms are very nice, with only a few minor concessions to the age of the building, and the natural setting and view are lovely. The breakfast was ample and delicious. We would love to return and for anyone not determined to be within city walls, it is well worth seeking out.

La Conica da Fungaia

It's a great place to stay. A former convent with five guest rooms, set high in the hills 8 km from Siena and in about 45 acres of its own land. The building is an old convent, and incorporates a consecrated church and a graveyard. It's pleasant and luxurious, the rooms feature wood lined ceilings and good quality furnishings; and the attached bathroom provided distant views of Sienna as well as being a good standard. Our hosts are relaxed and charming and unobtrusive. Breakfast was excellent: eggs, home made cake, yoghurt and cereals etc. For us it was served in the garden. La Canonica is 8 kms from Sienna on country roads, and this includes 3 km of rough dirt road. You probably need a car to stay here, and good directions. That's not a drawback, just a comment. Highly recommended.

What can I say about this place? Simply amazing in everything. I wish there would be more owners as Roberto and his wife which take care of thwir place and guests. They were amazing in everything and they extremely took care of us!!! The place is perfect in all aspects and the dinner is strongly recommended since Roberto is an amazing chief!!!
