Family Retreat

We enjoyed a spectacular week at the lake. The property is better than the pictures and very private. The cabin itself is gorgeous and well-equipped/comfortable. Would love to come back again.

Remarkable Cabin in a Remarkable Setting

This is an incredibly cozy and thoughtfully built and designed cabin, closer to my ideal of what a lake cabin should be than I have ever seen. There is nothing about the cabin or our experience with the owners that wasn't first-rate, we would go back in a second.

This is an incredible cabin on a beautiful piece of land. Not your typical UP rental. The owner was great to deal with and the property and cabin are amazing. If you are looking for a way up north getaway, you found it. We are a family of 5 and it was perfect for us.

Anam Cara was amazing. We enjoyed coming back to the house everyday after exploring the local trails. The property and the house were just as stated in the pictures, description and reviews. Would definitely return. Added bonus, we were able to meet and talk with Colleen.

Hansel & Gretel’s Cottage realized

If peace & quiet, exploring the outdoors, and a cottage out of a storybook are to your liking, this place is for you. With Fall color in full display, a plethora of fungi to seek out and the haunting sounds of the loons calling, there was no reason to leave this amazing place. The attention to detail and marriage to all things nature; twas a feast for the eyes and soul. Owners were responsive, kind and left a beautiful basket of treats. Best Vrbo rental yet .

We had a lovely week in the Keweenaw Peninsula. Anam Caram is a beautiful home and we spent many hours delighted by the many lanterns and thoughtfully created home. We spent much time walking the trails, foraging, fishing. It was a perfect getaway with just the right amount of comfort, rest, explorstion and beauty. Thank you for such attention to detail!

An exceptional cabin in everyway.

The cabin is everything in the pictures and more! My wife and I couldn’t believe the attention to detail and the level of curating done to decorate this home. It is truly a special and unique cabin. Stepping outside, we were absolutely in awe of the lake and surrounding scenery. It was the perfect place to relax and unwind and get back in touch with nature. We had a great trip to the Upper Peninsula and we couldn’t be happier that we chose to stay in this cabin.

Magical cabin in the woods

The photos don’t do this property justice. It was so cozy and quiet! If you truly want to get away from everything, this is the place to do it. The cottage is at the end of a long gravel road but is only about 5 miles from Copper Harbor. We cooked steaks over the fire one night but had enough dinning options in town as well. We had the opportunity to meet the owners who were wonderful people and were really interested in making our stay the best it could be. We can’t wait to go back when we have more time

Relaxing and Beautiful

We had an amazing four-day stay at Anam Cara. The house was exactly as described. Everything worked great. The hosts were very communicative and bent over backwards to make sure we had a great stay. I highly recommend the property to anyone looking for a beautiful respite and to relax in nature. The house had all the necessary amenities and then some. The paths are lovely for walks. The lakeshore is breathtaking in the fall. The giant eagles nest has to be seen to be believed. 10/10 would return. Thanks for a great vacation!

Magical Cabin for Family of Four

From the moment we arrived at this cabin, we felt overjoyed with the magical place we had found. The hosts were attentive and made sure everything was taken care of. Every detail of this cabin were explained prior to our arrival. They have different restaurants, stores, and an idea of the area. The cabin was clean, organized, and beautiful. The lights in this home were phenomenal. Our daughters were able to take a lamp kit home with them. It is a souvenir they will treasure. The property was fabulous. We were able to canoe, fish, hike, swim, make campfires, and our daughters loved trying to catch crawfish on the lake. It was a great getaway for our family. We will treasure the memories we made at this fairytale cabin.

Unique, secluded lake cabin off the beaten path

This property is located on picturesque Lake Medora and a mile and a half off the beaten path on an old mining road, with a view of Brockway Mountain. The cabin is very clean and well equipped with standard necessities. The owner has obviously put much thought and effort into having a unique cabin indoor lighting experience, some custom made lights very cool, some a nice try, but interesting to say the least. The cabin is on a secluded point facing NE with viewing NW to SE (good star gazing coverage). A love seat and foot rest (recommended) in front of the fireplace would be a nice addition to the amenities after a fun day exploring the Copper Harbor area. The cabin has a three season porch and a screened in porch for different weather conditions. The owners are quick to respond to questions or needs.

Wonderful time

We had a lovely time during our stay at Anam Cara. Beautiful property inside and out. The lake views are breathtaking. We fished and took the canoes out a few times. Spotted 2 young bald eagles soaring above us while canoeing. Cooked some meals and enjoyed the evening by the fire. Our kids loved exploring and had a great time catching crayfish in the lake. We enjoyed all the activities advertised. We met David and Colleen on our last night and they are both lovely people. We enjoyed our short chat with them and our tour of the point house (the other smaller house on the property). We definitely recommend a stay at Anam Cara. The house was clean and inviting. We also enjoyed all the cool lighting features David has made...really illuminates the house in the evening! A 5 star rating from this family!

Anam Cara, a little bit of UP heaven.

Anam Cara is a wonderful place to spend time. Quiet, peaceful and well thought out. My wife and I spent a week there. We appreciated the well equipped kitchen with sharp knives (nobody as of yet has used them to chop firewood) and nice cookware that has not been in the dishwasher (never put aluminum cookware in the dishwasher) Especially pleasant is the lake facing enclosed porch and the lake deck built between two rock outcrops. The cabin is on one of four contiguous lots that the owners have along the lake, so there's plenty of space right on the property for exploring and a lot more on the other side of Washington Mine Road for hiking on what looks like ATV/snowmobile trails. The town of Copper Harbor is an easy drive from the property. It has a great general store that is remarkably well stocked for such a small out of the way town (we got Hungarian paprika there, really. In a town of 100 permanent residents. Amazing) Try the brew pub across the street from the store for locally brewed beer. After that take a drive up to Brockway Mountian lookout and find Anam Cara with your binoculars. When you're at Anam Cara, you can see the lookout from the lake deck. Thanks Dave and Colleen for a very pleasant stay.

Wow - unparalleled!

I honestly don’t know where to start. I travel often, and this place is unparalleled in so many ways - it was, hands down, the most incredible cabin and property I’ve ever seen! I’m almost hesitant to share this review to ruin what feels like a secret discovery. We literally just left and have already contacted the owners to inquire about booking again and making it an annual trip. The owners David and Colleen are wonderful hosts - interesting, helpful, and friendly - and they put thought into every last touch. The cabin itself has every creature comfort you could possibly need, impeccable design and decor, and exquisite hand-made lamps throughout. But even beyond the cabin itself, it is on THE BEST part of Lake Medora! There’s a cool rocky point, views of the islands, a deck, a dock, sandy beach, canoes, an almost 1 mile walking/hiking trail circling the property…I could go on and on. There’s honestly no way to really capture in words how uniquely magical and gorgeous this place is. With all the lounging and adventuring we could possibly need right out the front door, we never actually felt the need to leave the property! But Copper Harbor is its own fairytale. If you’ve seen Northern Exposure, then I don’t need to explain the intrigue! And then you’ve got the shoreline of Lake Superior, world class mountain biking, etc etc etc. Staying here is like living in a storybook. Did I mention the outdoor shower?? Thank you, David and Colleen!! We can’t wait to go back!

A Stunning Retreat

Anam Cara is an amazingly beautiful and thoughtfully designed cottage in a spectacular, remote setting. The long, pretty, slow speed entry road and driveway (we were there during the height of the fall color season) make you feel like you have this this whole large lake to yourself. David and Colleen sited their cottage to slip gently into the mature woodland on their point, and with the lake on three sides there is always the glimmer of light on the water from every window, which gives a very special quality to staying there. Every convenience has been provided for, and the quality of the design and creativity and character brought to this cottage is unsurpassed in our experience of rental homes - real artistry! The trails on the property are a treat, as is sitting out on the rocky point soaking up the surroundings . We will certainly be going back, and can’t recommend it highly enough - what a magical place!

Simply Amazing

WOW is all we can say! The property was amazing and beyond perfect. We have rented several houses over the years and this one is #1. The owners were super, very informative, and helpful. Loved that they stayed in contact with us every step of the way. It was a great experience! Wish all owners were this way. The house was unbelievable. It is remote and so peaceful. We never heard a car or even a dog bark. We loved having our coffee on the dock each morning while watching the sunrise. We even could see the sunset from the rock in the evenings. My husband caught several walleye, perch, and small mouth bass from dock and we loved being at the beach swimming and watching the chipmunks and squirrels. We saw ducks, deer, loons, cranes, otters, and beavers. We walked the many trails and loved the flowers around the house. The outdoor shower was GREAT! So much to do at the house, we hated to even leave to explore the surrounding area. Normally we do not return to places we have been before but this will be the one exception! Thank you for the hospitality and sharing beautiful Anam Cara with us for the week.

STAY HERE, YOU WON'T REGRET IT!

I stayed here in October of 2021. The drive through the Keweenaw was stunning. So much color, even in late October! The cabin is situated on a secluded plot of land on a beautiful lake, but still a close drive to downtown Copper Harbor and many outdoor activities. Anam Cara is a very special place. There is plenty of history involved with the construction and design of the house, and the owners share the story with you in the house book. Our favorite parts of the cabin were the custom lighting pieces and the back four seasons room. While at the cabin we had a fire in the fire pit, explored the property, and spent time indoors appreciating the space. My only wish is that I had stayed longer! If you're looking for a place to stay in Copper Harbor, highly recommend this cabin.

Enchanting

We enjoy the fall season with somewhat cooler days and found this property and location to be not only warm and cheerful but especially enchanting and magical. Located at the tip of Michigan’s Keweenaw peninsula, just south of Copper Harbor, this property sits on a large secluded parcel on Lake Medora. The architecture is intimate with a cottage like quality one would find in a classic fable but with all the well designed modern amenities. Unique use of materials tells a story of this northwoods boreal region emphasizing its connection to the land. We walked the birch, spruce, balsam and white pine trail with its boardwalk, rugged shoreline and connection to the Point House also located on the property. Perched at the edge of the lake with numerous Canadian Shield granite outcroppings underscored the beauty and numismatic energy of this location. Our hosts where available to answer and accommodate any questions or needs we had making this a pleasant memorable stay. Both my wife and I would highly recommend this property and look forward to staying here in the future!👍🏼

Into The Woods

This unique property allows for a magical escape into the beauty of northern Michigan. The setting of the house blends seamlessly with its surroundings creating a relationship between inside and outside, as if the house and the natural world around it are having an ongoing conversation. The house is so comfortable that one is tempted to hole up with a book in any of the many quiet corners, yet there is a constant subtle pull to head outside to explore the walking trails on the property. The location allows for easy access to hiking, biking, boating and exploring in the area. We can highly recommend this wonderful place to anyone.
