4/10 Poor

The house is large and carefully decorated, though rather cold and austere. What was more troubling was the listing specifically said it had a heated pool (which has now been amended but may be relevant given expectations of a place which features that pool front and center). The night before our arrival the host sent an email saying if we wanted the pool heated it would be an additional 300 (and the listing also referenced no hidden fees). When we arrived, the host refused to heat the pool without payment and it took more than two hours of emails and vrbo intervention to get it resolved. Even after that however the pool was barely heated, certainly not enough to get into during cool winter temperatures. Also, the upstairs showers did not seem to get hot water either and that was after running the taps for an extended stretch. In addition, there is an alarm on the back door and each time you exit you have to push a button which makes a very loud noise and if you don't do so or hold the door open too long it sets off an ear-piercing alarm. I am guessing this is to avoid AC waste, but it was both extremely loud and obnoxious. Finally, there is a glass rail to the upstairs which asks that you not hold or touch it because it will cost 16,000 to replace yet the upper part of the stair has no handrail. Impossible for small children or the elderly.
