Corte San Pietro is the most beautiful place to stay. The staff is like family, very friendly and welcoming with everyone. Even the owners are around to welcome you. The rooms are fabulous! I was lucky enough to stay in room 7 and it was located just up from the reception and the bed was a climb of steps up, but I slept so well. The breakfast is the best I’ve seen following 3 weeks in Italy. I was greeted by the most lovely woman with all kinds of fruits, cakes, toasts with tomatoes, water, orange juice and she got me cappuccino anytime I asked. Oh and did I mention the piano player? It was in a sassi and I only missed my boyfriend, as I was solo traveling here. Centrally located and I found some great spots close by for cocktails and dinner. I’ll definitely return one day with someone special. And there is a fabulous spa advertising in the room!! OMG- just do it.

We didn’t get the bottle of wine and we forgot to ask for it. However, the hotel, the room and location was stunning. Specially the people who work at the hotel, they were wonderful! All of them were kind and friendly. We even met the owner whom was very kind and attentive to all our needs. I’d come back for next time. Kudos to Giuseppe for his time and recommendations!

I HIGHLY recommend this hotel and visiting Matera in general. The staff spoke great English, were onsite and were very friendly and personable. We were welcomed with a personal sign outside our door as well. It was walkable to everything you needed. The breakfast included was AMAZING (piano player in the background, sit down white table cloth, table service and plenty of food options). You could explore the hotel and all of the cisterns. The room was clean, quiet and comfortable. If I could rate this 1000/10 I would.

A unique cave room stay in central Matera location

Matera… what a place!! It’s a wow on every corner and Corte San Pietro was the same. Our superior room was one of the original cave dwellings, updated for a comfortable stay. The only windows were in the door to the room, which opened straight onto the street, but we didn’t mind that at all. Not having a door on the bathroom (just a curtain) was a surprise… but only added to the uniqueness of the stay. Breakfast was delicious and served to live piano music in a room above the hotel’s old underground cisterns (which made an interesting post-breakfast visit). All the staff were superb, really trying their best to meet every guest’s needs. Sadly they missed our (2) requests for a missing bath towel to be replaced but no one can be perfect. Finally the hotel’s recommended parking was perfect. Easy to find well sized and secured and a l transfer service can be arranged by the hotel. Just remember that this is all additional cost though.. €20 per night for the parking and €30 return for the transfer. Overall we highly recommend a visit to Matera and staying in Corte San Pietro.

The staff was very friendly and pleasant, breakfast was great with lots of variety and the room was clean. If you have any kind of respiratory issues a cave stay may not be for you, it is a little dark and humid.Overall Matera is a very special place. Grazia

Spectacular proportions very friendly service. For the price we paid, there should have been a free shuttle from the parking to the hotel. Breakfast was skimpy. There was absolutely no protein with breakfast and I left hungry.
