Staff was not courteous as advertised. Upon arrival with my family I told them I wanted to be placed in a quiet room because of my little kids and gave the front desk a very nice tip. Then it turns out they placed us next to the party pool area where the sister hotel next door holds all their parties. Like literally next to their pool. I let them know of the issue and asked them to change and they said I need to check out of the room at 11am and waot until 3pm to check in into a different room. So 4 hours no room with my luggage and little kids. And they did not care about it. They said I either take it or not. Super rude! That happened to another guest that I met because she found a cockroach in their bed. Another thing is the food. The quality of the food has really taken a hit. The fruits were are spoiled and smelled rotten. The food was the same every single day at the buffet. The evening entertainment was horrible except the Mexican night. This is my third and last time I am staying and nothing has really changed or evolved. The view at the arch rocks and the ocean was my favorite thing but now that has gone because all you stare at are at least three cruise ships every single day. They block the nice view and the smoke coming from them makes it hard to breathe. I used to love this hotel but aside from being clean there is really nothing to get me to come back.

Our room was at an excellent location where we could see the pool, the entertainment center, the ocean, and not too far to walk to the center. The only complaint is the bathrooms had this distinctive smell like sewer on and off from the first day and though they were cleaned daily. I did not bring it up during the stay bc i think the facility is a little older, so it guess it gets that way, plus we stayed outside most of the time anyway. We only go to the rooms to sleep and shower. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful, but i noticed that we were neglected at the pool when we didn't tip the first round. Other than that, we all enjoyed the stay, the variety of the food and drinks, and nightly activities the Riu offered. Thank you.
