Stay away from the Bishop

Our stay was ruined from the start. I got to the hotel at 15:10pm and had to wait 40 minutes just to be told there was no room for me and be sent to another “hotel” down the road. Upon arrival to the second hotel I was greeted by a teenager I could barely understand that showed me the room I would be staying in. It had no lock, no bathroom and there was no reception/receptionist so I refused the room as I didn’t feel safe. After trying to get things sorted which took a very long time and some accusations of losing keys (which I never had in the first place) they offered me a refund that came out to less than I paid for the room, in the end I had to drive 3 hours in the early hours of the morning after being messed around for far too long. Will not be attempting to stay again

Depends on what you are after

If you are travelling on budget and have no fussed, this place would be good enough to stay. Sadly, this is not for me. My studio room was big but they only provided basic furniture in the room - a double bed, a singal bed, a chair, a wardrobe and a draw. It would be good to include a table so that there were more space available put our personal belonging. The whole place didn’t feel clean either - they left clean towels on the floor, the bath drain was full of hair, and I felt the bed was not really clean as I had itchiness after a night of sleeping. Freddie was great and tried his best to look after us. The hotel also provided a kitchen for guests to use for free, with some bread, crackers, fruit, milk, cheeses etc so you could have breakfast, which was nice. They also have ovens and stoves so you could make a meal. However, the main ovens were not functioning well, not enough bowls and had no pots so could not boil an egg. The house was a mansion before and the owner turned it into a guest house. This place has a potential as they could make it nicer for guests to have a much more comfortable stay. However, I feel that they were doing things on the cheap and were quite disorganised overall. I would not be coming back.

When we arrived having travelled 200 miles, we were shocked to be told our booking of a room with ensuite facilities had been cancelled. We were offered 2 rooms left to choose from (which weren't ready) but neither room was ensuite, so we refused. We were told by the person managing the property to wait, initially until around 6.30pm, which then became 8.30, when he could ask the people staying in the suite if they wanted to swap to a room without facilities! Exhausted from our journey, we accepted one of the available rooms, but were promised we'd be in a suite with ensuite facilities the next day. (The tiny shower - hardly wider than a toilet seat- was a long distance down a public corridor; the door stuck so had to be left open! Despite telling the manager, the lock wasn't mended. Zero toiletries & loo paper). Returning the next evening v tired to the house, we were told the promised ensuite wasn't available. We had no choice but to stay the 2nd night in a room without facilities & far from the shower. We discovered at around 10pm that ceiling lights could not be switched off but despite phoning the manager several times no one responded. A 2nd night was ruined. We had to leave around 8 am for a family engagement even though we were exhausted from poor sleep. Our treatment was appalling! The weekend was meant to be a family celebration, and my daughter who travelled with me was recovering from cancer treatment. The stress from our disastrous experiences created more
