Steps from the Marble Arch station. It’s the old Hard Rock Cafe Hotel and they didn’t change the decor when they changed the name. If you want an American hotel with American style food in the middle of London then this is the hotel for you. We picked this hotel because it had rooms with 2 double beds but wouldn’t be our first choice for a return trip.

The Cumberland is a massive hotel. One where there is always a lot of people coming and going and sitting in the lobby. In the lobby there was a lot of kitschy things that made up the decor, including a "Back to the Future" Delorean. On our first morning, we had paid for breakfast, but chose not to eat there, because of the long wait to enter the dining area. The elevator situation there was unacceptable. There were only 6 elevators and you had to choose your floor by swiping your card at the ground level. You could not choose your floor in the elevator cab. Elevators were over-packed during breakfast and it took too long to get on an elevator that took you to your floor.

Room was adequate. House keeping didn’t comprehend a lot of our requests and delivered services that left us short on towels. Room was clean and most was adequate. Shower was raised and water extremely hot Also felt no need for a hot towel rack ( was burned a few times until we learned to keep it off). The electric lighting took almost the whole week to figure it out ( even with assistance from concierge and maintenance). Lobby services was extremely helpful.

Lovely hotel reception and bar area, rooms were clean and simple, nothing wildly different to average. Check in was quite slow, which meant 15mins queuing. Bar service was a bit slow too in the lobby bar.

Convenient to shopping and Hyde Park

Convenient location and interior room was quiet despite being very close to the elevators. Be prepared to wait for the elevators at peak times (breakfast, check in). On second day, housekeeping only provided one set of towels for two guests. Called twice to request a second set but never received. Bathroom layout was tight with toilet wedged between wall and sink.

Slow elevators, long waits, view of aircon unit.

Left a day early but ended up paying full stay but felt claustrophobic in the room. View was just an industrial air conditioner unit. Lines for the elevators at times took 15 minutes. Asked about stairs and was told they’re not accessible. Good location though.

Wonderful and quirky hotel! Very nice rooms and in the perfect location at the junction of Hyde park and Oxford street shopping. Will definitely stay here again, the only issue is the absolutely tragic elevator situation. They have a “smart elevator” system, that assigns elevators based on what floor folks are going to, however this does not work well in practice and especially during busy times. Be prepared to wait up to 15 min for an elevator. My recommendation is to get a room on the first or second floor and just take the stairs. It’s unfortunate, as it was the only discrepancy during our stay.
