Misrepresented in Expedia as a hotel. It is a hostel. Room was 10 x 10 feet. The exterior window was held partially closed with duct tape. The shower consisted of a metal pan with a curtain which surrounded one by 360 degrees. Fine for young people, but not us retirees, especially when advertised as a hotel.

Room was small, very expensive hotel for what is essentially a hostel. No staff on site from 7pm. Tv in room didn’t work, no battery’s for tv remote, shower was like something you get at a dog kennels. Extremely disappointing and wouldn’t stay here again. Hotel uses picture of lake and public fields to make it look as if it’s a larger more luxurious hotel. It’s a hostel charging you hotel prices.

Great location on the lake. Beds in dorm with privacy curtain were comfy. Wish there was more space to relax outside the dorm rooms - it’s either the kitchen/dining room or the upstairs room, which doesn’t have enough couches for people to sit. Bathrooms were ok - should be more shelving or something for people to put their toiletries on as the 3 sinks in the bathroom hall were frequently occupied, so people kept having to leave because they couldn’t use the sinks. Otherwise good for maximum 2 night stay.

to start, when booking this room, it was not advertised anywhere that this was a hostel. it was listed as haka Hotel. the room was ok - the bed was stiff and hard, plugins were only available as part of the headboard, the shower looked like a jail shower.. woke up to the smell of tuna/ fish first thing in the morning at 8:30. and to top it all off, we paid $356 for this room.. that is more than a luxury room we paid for in Queenstown.. wouldn't stay here again. probably good for backpackers on a budget, who are ok to share a dorm- but definitely wasn't for us.

Room was ultra small with no ventilation without opening the windows which attracts insects. Very small bath area. No trash can, tissues, moisturizer etc. Bed was super high for people with accessibility issues. Very small single comforter.

I had a wonderful stay at Haka House Lake Tekapo. From the moment I arrived, the experience was excellent. Molly at the front desk was absolutely amazing. She gave me a very detailed and patient introduction to the hotel, the surrounding area, and all the things to do in Tekapo. She even explained where to shop and how to get around, which was extremely helpful for a first-time visitor. Her friendly and thoughtful service really made me feel welcomed. The hotel itself is extremely clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. The common areas and kitchen are tidy, the rooms are spotless, and everything feels modern and well organized. The location is also perfect—close to the lake, shops, and walking paths. Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely stay here again. Highly recommended
