Hotel was located at a very convenient location. Lots of facilities and amenities were available, including breakfast. Great value for money. Was very clean, and most guests I saw appeared to be non foreigners. Unfortunately the lockers were too thin to fit my suitcase so I had to leave it outside near reception alongside many other oversized suitcases from other travellers. Big let down is I sent a message to the property here on Expedia prior to my stay but no one ever responded to the message.

No sweat in this sauna resort capsule hotel

Rumor Plaza makes for an interesting Japanese experience. Due to common sleeping and bathing quarters, it "caters to men" only. As a hotel, it is a capsule hotel, meaning small sleeping quarters which are about 1.5m height by width and about 2m long, stacked one above the other. The capsules have a TV (earphones supplied), light and ventilation control, and a bottle of water supplied. The other guests are quiet and the bed comfortable, so there is no trouble sleeping (there is also a clock to help wake up). In the morning an excellent and varied Japanese breakfast is served. Western style breakfast food seemed to be limited to toast and boiled eggs but the Japanese buffet is very comprehensive. The location is ideal, in the heart of Gion. The bathing facilities are on two levels, the upper of which is outdoors and features a medicinal bath and salt bath. One can also lie outside and watch TV (Japanese baseball seemed to be all the thing at the time of my visit). The lower level has the mandatory wash area for a good scrub before proceeding naked to the baths. There is a large and quite hot sauna, large hot pool, smaller cool pool, two very hot bath-size jetted tubs. Gion is of course the night life center of Kyoto, but also close to major temples and quiet areas on the Higashiyama hillside.

Totally worth your stay!

The stay was a pleasant one, everything is convenient and well catered for! I could hardly think of anything to ask for more! I especially like the outdoor spa and the suntanning area, but just a bit too hot during my time there.

Second time here and as good as the first time. Only issue is with foreign guest who do not follow proper sauna etiquette. Most catch on by the second time. For the price you pay it’s excellent. Would definitely go back.

Great experience for first time traveler to Japan and staying at a capsule hotel. Would do it again. It's convenient and affordable. The staff are very professional and welcoming. The amenities are good (just have to get use to the taking a bath (Japanese style). Buffet breakfast is also good.

My first capsule hotel. Different but fun!

Had an enjoyable time. Clean facilities in the capsule hotel section. My first day i did notice 2 shower rooms on the 3rd floor but every time i went past after that they were locked? Had to shower up on spa level which was ok. Spa baths were nice!

Capsule hotel with all the extras

Great Japanese spa oriented experience with good facilities, good breakfast, great location, even the snow was a plus. North Americans might feel more at ease since the bathing facilities do offer swimwear, which is unusual in Japanese public baths.

Awesome hotel with friendly staff great location

This capsule hotel, only for men, it's a great place to stay when visiting Kyoto. It's perfectly located 5 mns walk from a main train station a bus stops that will take you to any museum or temple very easily. The cleanliness and condition of the hotel makes this a perfect place for your solo getaway. They offer free breakfast buffer, sauna, all toiletries including towels, disposable tootbrush and razor, lotions, shampoo, etc. I would totally recommend this place.

Amazing capsule hotel in Gion!!

I can not thank Saeko Orita and Keiko Oda enough (the lovely receptionists)for their professionalism and attention to detail. They spoke English beautifully and were a huge help over the 4 days that I was in Kyoto. The capsule hotel itself is extremely clean, modern and great value for money!

Great hotel at Gion Shijo (for MEN only)

If arriving from Keihan railway GION SHIJO station, take the exit #6 and walk all the way to your right until you see the RUMOR PLAZA hotel sign Pros: 1. 3-minute walk from a train station (Gion Shijo) 2. Staff is nice 3. Very clean 4. Capsule floor has a sink for you to wash face or brush teeth 5. Basic necessities provided (toothbrush, shaver, hair dryer, etc.) 6. Has massage services 7. Good restaurant 8. Has a floor with manga books and reclining corner 9. Has good sauna and bath 10. There are LED TVs in the capsule room, free earphones and earplugs, and a small bottle of ILOHAS water 11. The mattress is very comfortable and thick, and the capsule room is very wide Cons: 1. For people staying consecutive nights, the locker is small, so you'll have to take out all of your essential & important belongings from your luggage to the locker or suffer the consequence of having to ask the front desk to take your luggage out, since the luggage isn't allowed at the locker room and you return it to the front desk for them to keep it Conclusion: Must visit if you want to experience a modern capsule hotel
