Beautiful ocean-front view from our balcony (psychedelic sunrises); across the street from Kill Devil Grill -- fab food and fun bar, and you (almost) can't get in trouble heading back to your room. Decent breakfast, mellow fellow guests. The John Yancey is small and not super-glitzy, but it's got what you need, provided you came basically for "beach."

Staff members are all wonderful! This was the perfect place for a cold January getaway right on the beach! We loved being able to sit on the deck right outside our door and enjoy the sand and ocean views! Breakfast was really great as well. Would highly recommend and can’t wait to come back!

I usually leave good reviews but I’m very unhappy with my stay. At first room was nice, until we started seeing cockroaches!!!! The shower took about ten minutes to get warm but it never got hot! The sink in bathroom has gross blue rusty stuff on faucet. Breakfast is the same everyday but needs to be more careful about temperature, the ice baths only had like 15 ice cubes not even touching the bottom of the pans/eggs/milk VERY dangerous someone could get sick. The juice machine apple to be exact had floaters in it. As you can tell, the weather was extreme winter and winds it was under state of emergency. I asked the front desk should we be worried cause we’re not from around here because we leave Sunday, February 1 and the storm was supposed to hit Saturday around noon. I don’t know his name because he didn’t have a name Tag but he wasn’t very helpful he shrugged his shoulders and said you should be fine. Well, my husband and I made a judgment call and it was a good decision because that storm hit hard. And we would’ve been stranded. But what really hurt the most was when he said well if you’re checking out early, you know you’re not refunded. I feel like he shouldn’t have said that cause that was very rude the way he said it.

The room was spacious, well equipped and very clean. The bed was not comfortable. Why too hard, and I like a firmer mattress. The breakfast was great. Everything you need to start the day. The staff was very pleasant. I had to walk to another building, across the lot for ice. Our ice machines weren't working. Great location. Nice big gazebo overlooking the ocean. If it wasn't for the bed I go back in a heartbeat.

The room was very clean. Staff was accommodating, from front desk to staff in the breakfast room, although staff at check-in could not tell me where the closest Visitor center may be located. Seems like something they should know. Great location, very central to everything and beach location very nice with a wonderful gazebo overlooking the ocean. I might suggest installing some type of chain lock or extra lock on the door so you do not have to completely open the door if someone knocks. All in all, very good. I would stay here again.
