The hotel lost power shortly after we checked in for a two-night stay, so we had to go somewhere else. The hotel has refused to answer the phone when I call, but will pick up when I have other people call (corporate office, etc). They’re now saying they can’t refund the first night because we checked in but not out. Of course we checked in. We had a reservation, and the building had power. When it was clear we needed to go somewhere else, I dropped our keys at the front desk and watched the attendant write down my name and number as well as give me the name of the manager (Neeraj) so we could get ahold of each other. I would consider that checking out. They don’t have record of my checking out because, again, no power, and they’re telling me there is no note about my leaving, even though I watched the guy at the front desk write it down.
