My family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Claytor Escape Lodge. The front porch with lake views plus the large living area with a great dining table were my favorite spots but some of the younger members of the family enjoyed the game area the best. The house is spacious, well designed for a crowd and is in a private location. We are a large family, ten adults, one child and one baby and the house suited all of our needs. We will visit again.

VT Reunion

Family Reunion

We had a group of family from five different states at the Clayton Escape to be with our 91 year old Dad who lives nearby. The place is amazing. Well appointed. Attentive hosts. Beautiful setting right on the lake. The view from the porch is better than the pictures. We had an amazing vacation.

VCOM graduation

We had a wonderful weekend celebrating our daughter's graduation from VCOM. We rented both Claytor Escape and Green Cape Cottage. We enjoyed the kayak, paddle boards and swimming off the dock. The house was clean and well-stocked. Check in was easy and the host was very responsive. And - the front porch of Claytor Escape is wonderful!

Beautiful lake home

We loved staying at the house. The view of the lake is spectacular. The house is large and spacious. Several living areas but we spent most of the time (when not on the water) on the huge front porch. There were toys for kids and games for adults provided. Fully supplied kitchen with everything we needed. We loved the outdoor dining area as well. Chris was a great host. Very responsive. Highly recommended… we’ll definitely consider staying again.

Just what we needed!

This vacation home was like a home away from home. The property was beautiful, clean, comfortable, and it had everything we needed. Our family and extended family enjoyed the time together and the location and amenities had a lot to do with that. The lake and the location were so tranquil. Waking up to the sunrises made getting up early worthwhile. Communicating with the property owner was easy and he was both welcoming and accommodating starting with the reservation. We highly recommend the property and this owner. It’s the real deal and a great home! Don’t hesitate booking it!

Family Gathering

Loved almost everything…cabin next door is being worked on so huge mound of debris at edge of driveway but that won’t last forever, neither will that nail gun and electric saw. We were disappointed not to be able to use the upper deck of the dock because it is in desperate need of refinishing, but relished the paddle boards and kayak time on the gorgeous lake. Being the chef for 9-people I missed having a block of good knives, but the configuration of the house is fabulous. Rocking chairs on front porch with a fire pit beat out tv time for everyone. I feel sure we’ll be back.

More Than Meets The Eye

We rented this property so that we can enjoy a nice long weekend with our college daughter (Virginia Tech), our family and a few other friends. I can say that the pictures do not do the property justice. The house is much larger than we perceived from the pictures. To say there was ample space is an understatement. Also, the house was impeccably clean and fresh and truly felt like home. Whether it was relaxing in one of the many seating areas or on the massive rocking chair filled front porch or playing in the game room (foosball table, ping pong table etc) there was always something for everyone. We look forward to returning to this property again and would recommend this for any family that is looking for a memorable waterfront experience!

Relaxing, quiet and also fun!

I booked this property a year in advance to plan a little family reunion. The house was very spacious with tons of space for 8 people to feel comfortable. The big kitchen was important as we were planning on cooking and hanging out at the house as much as possible. The house was clean and felt safe. The access to Claytor Lake was amazing. My brother and father really enjoyed fishing right from the dock. My husband and I took the paddle boards out several times. A new activity for us that we truly enjoyed. My nephew enjoyed the kayak. The beds were comfortable and we never felt like there was a shortage of places to sit and hangout. We played cards, listened to music, watched movies, grilled on the patio and watched the sunsets. I took my nephews and dog on an epic waterfall hike called Cascade Falls. I went for a run on the New River Trail and rode my bike 20 miles on the Huckleberry Trail. We also visited the Rising Silo Farm Brewery and Draper Mercantile. All reachable by car. The property owner was nearby for part of our stay and was very helpful and friendly. The location is quiet and the neighbors we came in contact with were always waving and saying hi. A great family vacation overall!
