We’ve always loved Maui, and communication before our trip was great. We chose this unit at Honua Kai because we had an amazing stay in a similar 3‑bedroom in 2015. Unfortunately, this visit didn’t meet the same standard.The resort’s overall cleanliness has declined, from the pools to the hallways. When we arrived at the unit, the lanai furniture was the first disappointment. The cushions were mismatched, extremely thin, and didn’t fit the furniture, making them uncomfortable to use.Inside the unit, we experienced several issues. The wine fridge made a very loud buzzing noise every hour for several minutes, day and night. I reported it early in our stay, but the response was slow and the problem was never fixed, making the pull‑out couch unusable for sleeping. The ice maker also stopped working on the third day. While a bag of ice was brought to us, we had to get additional ice from the parking garage ourselves. Lastly, the bathtub in the second master wouldn’t drain, so we had to bathe our grandkids in the main master instead.I understand that things can go wrong, but the number of issues was disappointing for a property at this level. We may return to Honua Kai, but we will not stay in this unit again. I hope the outdoor furniture and maintenance concerns are addressed for future guests.
