First, note that this property's car park is not very accessible to folks with limited mobility and the garage gate is broken. The number of parking spaces is also *extremely* limited and the only access to the hotel is from 1 of 3 levels. Otherwise, you need to walk down a very narrow, steep car ramp to get to the 1 level by which you can enter the hotel. The hotel also shares the car park, so at least half the spots on the 1 floor accessible to the hotel are blocked off for private use. Two other guests were frustrated by this while I was there. Second, the first room they put me in did not match the description on Expedia; the room I actually checked into ended up having mystery orange debris on the bedding and more debris in the shower, raising general questions about the hotel's cleanliness. I ended up moving hotels, but when I mentioned I'd been here to a local, they stifled a laugh and said they'd heard it was awful from lots of other people.

Found the staff upon arrival pre occupied and not useful with information. Lack of parking and access to the hotel from the parking areas was not used friendly. Room quite strong smell of cleaning products and caused wheezy chest. Lack of amenities in room - utensils and plates provided but no heating equipment such as a microwave.

When I first walked in I was greeted by a young lady who was fantastic at checking me in friendly and helpful. Got to my room and it went downhill from there. Jug didn’t work air conditioning rattled wasn’t circulating the air that well and flat battery in the tv remote( only had 1 replacement battery at reception).Had a look at the air con and the filter was full of lint. No restaurant and the pool look fantastic but was closed and when I had a look from 2nd story looked like it had a small truck load of sand in it. Lesson learnt to read the reviews before you book

We have stayed at the Emerald Inn many times in the past. It is well placed in the city and close to amentities. The last time about 18 months ago the kitchen wasn’t functioning so no on site breakfast. It still, isn’t function and awaiting repairs. The central pool area, usually very attractive was abandoned - filthy pool, brown muddy water and pool cleaning gear abandoned in the pool. Our roo had only one cup, no teaspoons, only the end of a toilet roll, our room was miles from lifts, etc cobweb on window, room only had the bed covers pulled up by room service but no dishes done bins emptied etc. young man on reception was useless. Also no phone to phone reception for more loo paper and another cup etc so had to do the long trek down to request these. What’s going on? Are they going out of business or just a need a new manager.

A convenient hotel in the centre of Gisborne, and the river view suites have nice views over the river. Rooms are nice and spacious with balconies and were OK, but the property has a tired feel about it. Was disappointed that the bathroom hadn't been cleaned properly (makeup and sticky residue in the sink and on the bathroom counter). Bed uncomfortable (two singles pushed together with insufficient topper). The staff were lovely though and very pleasant to deal with. (Gave a great recommendation for the 'Just Thai' restaurant around the corner - one of the best Thai meals I've had).

Enjoyed the river views. The room was warm even without the heatpump on. Liked that it was central to restaurants and shops. Carparking safe. Only downfall was a smelly odour in the room, heatpump outdoor unit noisy, loud thumps from other rooms and neighbours can easily look into your room from their balcony.

Well other than the fact that it was cozy. some of the basics like water, wasn't provided. Shower check should be done before you assign the room to someone. The shower of our room was broken and they had to transfer us to another room. The hotel is too big and there are to multiple ways to go about your room, so be ready for a lot of walking if the room is far away from the entrance. And the swimming pool, something i was looking forward to, wasn't clean at all and was closed.
