One Bron Derw - Two Bedroom Cottage, Sleeps 4
Bron Derw is situated in the heart of Snowdonia which combines the beauty of the mountains with the many high adrenaline activities available. Enjoy a mountain adventure, a trip to the beaches or just relax and enjoy this wonderful part of the country. At the end of the day return to Bron Derw where you can sit and enjoy the views outside, light the fire and relax inside or enjoy some hearty food or a drink in the local inn. This beautiful stone cottage has been lovingly renovated throughout to produce a wonderful house with the charm of an old cottage and the convenience and comfort of a modern home. The ground floor has been opened up to produce a living room-kitchen-diner where every guest can spend quality time. Original features like wooden beams and log burner give the space a cosy feeling while the modern facilities like dishwasher, dryer, microwave and oven. The kitchen also has a nespresso coffee machine (bring your own pods) for you to use. There is a flat screen TV and WiFi via broadband make spending time here even more enjoyable. The first floor bedroom with king size bed looks over the village and the hills of Snowdonia. A twin room at the rear has two single beds (2ft 6' wide) and family bathroom with bath, shower cubicle and WC. To the front of the house is an outdoor seating area as well as a small terraced garden to the rear of the house with a patio area and outdoor furniture. A covered area can be used to store bikes. Parking for one car, bed linen and towels are provided. Please note that there are several slate steps leading from the parking area to the house. The village of Dolwyddelan, on the road midway between Blaenau Ffestiniog and Betws-y-Coed, is dwarfed by its mountainous surroundings, some of the wildest walking country in Snowdonia. Mighty Moel Siabod rears its head to the north, a sight even more stirring when viewed from the battlements of Dolwyddelan Castle. The single-towered fortress, unlike the grand showpiece strongholds of Caernarfon and Conwy constructed by King Edward I to subdue the Welsh, is a castle built by the native Princes of Wales. It’s easy to see why Llywelyn the Great chose this strategic spot on a high ridge commanding the Lledr Valley for his early 13th-century stronghold. Strategy aside, he may also have been influenced by the simple fact that he felt at home here, for Dolwyddelan was his birthplace. These were turbulent times – later that century Edward took the castle and refortified it for his own purposes. Unlike other lonely, timeworn mountain strongholds, Dolwyddelan doesn’t look its age thanks to a restoration in the Victorian era. Close by, there are bike trails around the Blaenau Ffestiniog area, Betws y Coed, Coed y Brennin and Penmachno all close by. and activities all within easy distance.
