WALK TO WALLA WALLA UNIVERSITY — A GROUND-FLOOR KING SUITE FOR YOUR FALL IN...
You are coming to Walla Walla this autumn for a reason that matters. Your student is in their first term at Walla Walla University and Family Weekend is on the calendar. The valley is in the middle of crush and you have tasting appointments booked. You have a six-week contract at the hospital and you need somewhere that feels like a home instead of a room. Whatever brought you, you do not want to spend the trip negotiating a cramped hotel room, hunting for parking in the dark, or eating every meal out because there is nowhere to cook.
The Magnolia Suite is a private, ground-floor, one-bedroom apartment on a quiet cul-de-sac in College Place — less than a mile from the Walla Walla University campus, directly across the street from Lion's Park, and ten minutes from downtown Walla Walla and dozens of tasting rooms. It is bright, it is spacious, it is spotlessly clean, and it has been hosted by the same family for over eight years and more than eighty stays.
WHY THIS SUITE WORKS IN THE FALL
Everything is on one level. There are no stairs to climb with a suitcase, a case of wine, or a car full of dorm supplies, and no icy steps to negotiate when the weather turns in November. Guests with mobility considerations tell us the ground-level entry and the two doorways make this one of the easiest places in the valley to get in and out of. The full bathroom has a bathtub with grab bars — a genuine soak at the end of a long day of tastings or a long shift, which most one-bedroom rentals in this market simply do not offer.
The kitchen is fully equipped and unapologetically vintage. A full-size refrigerator and freezer, an oven and stove, a microwave, a toaster, a blender, an electric kettle, a Keurig with a carousel of K-cup pods, proper cooking basics, dishes, silverware and wine glasses. It is older in style, and we would rather tell you that up front than have you discover it. What it does have is space and everything you actually need to cook — which is why so many parents book this suite: you can make your student a real home-cooked meal at a real dining table instead of taking them to another restaurant.
There is a washer and dryer inside the apartment. Not down a hallway, not shared, not coin-operated. In a wet Walla Walla autumn, with muddy boots and a long stay, that is worth more than almost any other amenity in the building.
SLEEPING AND LIVING
The private bedroom has a brand-new luxury king mattress, room-darkening shades, and a closet with hangers and clothing storage. The living room has a queen hide-a-bed with a memory-foam mattress, so the suite comfortably sleeps four. Extra pillows and blankets are in the closet — take them, the evenings get cool here from October on.
The living area is genuinely large and open, flowing into the dining space. There is an upright piano that guests play constantly, a shelf of board games, books, and a table that doubles as a laptop-friendly workspace with good access to power outlets. Central heating and air conditioning keep it comfortable in every season, and the Wi-Fi is fast enough to work or stream on. Out the back there is a patio with Adirondack chairs, a garden, and access to the backyard — a good place for coffee on a crisp morning.
WHERE YOU ARE
Under one mile to Walla Walla University and to the shops, cafes and grocery in downtown College Place — genuinely walkable, not walkable-if-you-are-determined. Directly across the road from Lion's Park, which is now complete and open: walking paths, a duck pond, a playground and wide open lawns that are at their best under autumn colour. Ten minutes by car to downtown Walla Walla, its restaurants, and the tasting rooms of the Walla Walla Valley AVA. Short drives out to Fort Walla Walla and its trails, the Blue Mountains foothills, valley farm stands, and Whitman College.
Autumn here is the valley's best-kept secret. Harvest and crush run through September and October, Fall Release Weekend in early November is the biggest wine weekend of the year, and the foliage in the Blue Mountain foothills through October is worth the drive on its own. Add WWU and Whitman family weekends, the Falla Walla Half, the Harvest Festival, Thanksgiving with a kitchen you can actually cook in, and Holiday Barrel Weekend in December, and the calendar fills fast.
CHECK-IN AND HOSTING
Check-in is entirely self-serve through a keypad at your own private entrance, at whatever hour you arrive. You will get clear printed information inside the apartment and a checkout list that guests routinely call the most useful they have seen. We are local, we answer quickly, and if something is not right we would far rather hear it during your stay than read it afterwards.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE YOU BOOK
We would rather you book with clear eyes than arrive disappointed. Magnolia is the lower-level suite in an older three-unit house. There is another suite beside you on the lower level and a larger apartment upstairs; both are rented separately and may have guests while you are here. You share no door and no entryway with them. But this is an older house, and sound carries — between floors and through the vents. The family who lived upstairs has moved out, which has made a real difference, and quiet hours are 10pm to 7am for everyone. Message us any time and we will tell you honestly whether the other apartments are booked for your dates.
We are also on a busy street between the two big-box stores, so there is some traffic noise from the kitchen and main bedroom, and rubbish collection comes early on Monday mornings.
If absolute silence is the single most important thing about your trip, this may not be the right suite, and we will happily say so. If what you want is a spacious, spotless, well-equipped ground-floor home within walking distance of campus, with a real kitchen, a real bathtub, in-unit laundry and a piano — for a weekend, a family weekend, or a couple of months — you will be very comfortable here.
Long stays are genuinely welcome. Travel nurses, visiting faculty, contractors and relocating families have stayed here for weeks and months at a time, and many of them come back.
Book your autumn dates and come see the valley at its best.
The apartment is air-conditioned and features a kitchen and a patio, and there's space to spread out with a separate bedroom. Other standard amenities include a washing machine, a coffee maker, and an ironing board.

This property is very clean, huge and quiet. The host has given me five star hospitality. Always available when needed. I enjoyed my stay so much that I extended another two weeks.if I was able to give 10 stars if I could.
