Not really a hotel as there is not front desk or bar just bedrooms ( and healing therapies if thats your reason to be there)but a very nice place to stay with large rooms and easy to find and travel around. All rooms up a flight of stairs with key codes to gain access.Excellent restaurant situated right next door for breakfast lunch or dinner with a lovely bar ,which is also dog friendly. Good grounds and perfect if you want to chill outside after a days sightseeing and good for walking the dog. Road side rooms very noisy when the windows are open. They did pop some ear plugs on the bedside table but these not really good enough to block the noise completely. Had a fan in the room which was great due to the hot weather.

We had a great stay at The Retreat, it had everything we needed. Towels werenā€™t super fluffy. Great location with excellent access to the coast

Had a very comfortable night's sleep and the room was exceptionally clean. The quality of the bedding and towels were also first class. WiFi was more than adequate and the room temperature was perfect.

Review of The Retreat

Quiet, pleasant, as expected. Nice grounds and walks available. Traffic a bit noisy but not too bad. Nice ambience. Easy parking. If we need to stay in that area in future I expect we'll go there.

We were not happy with our room as it was small and directly facing the road and the noise of constant traffic passing day and night. We had asked for a quiet room on booking and a late checkout, neither of which we got. The wellbeing classes were very expensive so we could not afford any. Dogs in rooms barking as they had be left alone.

Lovely room Clean and everything you need for a weekend stay Donā€™t think it would be good for anyone with restricted mobility as all rooms upstairs and some rooms have a split level to en-suite We had a front facing room to main road which can get noisy as main road from Southampton to Christchurch They do supply ear plugs but traffic wasnā€™t to bad at night to cause me to use Wife did use but had a good night sleep anyway The only thing that would be a better experience would be ev charging points so ev cars can charge overnight even thou their are plenty of dc chargers in area but charging on site would help on day planning and return trips home

The Retreat is an excellent hotel

Lovely relaxing stay, I was here to meet up with old friends in New Milton, the Retreat offered a nice base for rest and relaxation in a lovely setting

Great stay, just what we wanted.

We loved the self check-in, made everything very quick and easy. Room we absolutely fine, clean and comfortable. We were at the front so had a little road noise but it wasnā€™t a problem and we slept well. Plenty of parking so thatā€™s always a bonus. Breakfast in the nearby Colin Nash restaurant was excellent. A really good full-English. Will definitely stay here again.

It was mediocre but not horrendous for the money

Not the best - it was okay. The overall building & grounds are nice. Nice looking restaurant & menu but definitely not cooked to the standard I'd expect for the price - just overpriced and small portions (you know the vibes!). Staff friendly in the restaurant/bar - but staff on the phone not great at answering (within the alloted business hours stated). I had the eco/budget room so I can't complain about the tiny room & single bed etc, but just a warning - you need to squeeze your case in the wardrobe otherwise, there is no room to move. It was okay - there were lots of activities I wanted to partake in but I didn't find it clear to book online etc. When I eventually found the prices of the events, I decided to give it a miss. The grounds are beautiful though and I'm sure the Pilates studio was very nice (looked nice from the outside). They told me to text ahead of arrival but didn't receive confirmation of receipt (confused me as to why I had to do this). Quite old/worn bathroom & general decor within the room. I left 3 days early due to personal circumstances, but didn't feel like I knew what was going on really within the hotel, in terms of facilities available and events taking place. Nothing horrendous but maybe get a better room than I got (pay more) & don't get as excited about the Colin Nash restaurant as I did.

Best place to stay with my dogs

I been here probably 15 times. This place itā€™s just amazing, every time I come to visit New Forest I book The Retreat New Forest for my staying with my dogs! There itā€™s pet friendly and no charge for dogs (thatā€™s fantastic) a big bonus for me so why I come here many time! The room itā€™s clean, very comfy and relaxing! I recommend if youā€™re coming around New Forest with your furry friends, donā€™t hesitate to stay there!
