This place made me and my girlfriend very uncomfortable there is a camera watching you as soon as you walk in upstairs and you are sharing a space that isn’t even cleaned properly daily not to mention you have to send a separate deposit via Zelle which they stated we would receive 3-5 days after checkout it has been 7 days still no refund I’ve been messaging them and calling them about the refund and a woman lied through her teeth saying it would be processed and switched up and said it was already processed then hung up in my face when I said which is it. Do not go here.

Villa Dubouis is a good guesthouse, however the security deposit complication and the area it lays in makes it difficult to call it great! Ah and yes the tv worked the first night but the sound did not work the second night! 😎

To Expedia Staff: Unsafe, Misleading, and Unresponsive – A Terrifying Experience at Villa Dubouis Guest House or Warning: Unsafe and Uninhabitable Stay – Villa Dubouis Guest House, Chicago Review: I want to share my experience so that other travelers don’t go through the same terrifying situation I did. I booked a stay at Villa Dubouis Guest House in Chicago through Expedia for October 24–25 and October 26–27, 2025. When I arrived around 10:00 p.m., I discovered the property was located in a dark, unsafe, and desolate neighborhood — completely different from what was advertised online. There was no front desk, no lights, no visible staff or security, and the place looked abandoned. I tried calling and texting the phone number posted on the door multiple times, but no one ever answered. Even my Uber driver warned me that it was not a safe area and refused to leave me there alone. I was left stranded late at night in a neighborhood that clearly posed a safety risk. I had no choice but to leave immediately and find another hotel at my own expense. What’s even more disappointing is that after reporting everything to Expedia, they denied my refund request, claiming the property refused to honor it — despite the fact that I never even had access to my room and was never greeted or assisted by anyone. The room was clean and cute. It had a comfortable bed and a desk and that’s all we really needed. The area was fairly quiet and a great location to catch a bus or take a quick drive to the parts of city we visited (The Loop and Hyde Park). We had access to street parking directly in front of the property. The shared common areas were a fun aesthetic and very tidy. Online communication with the property managers was timely and direct. We definitely enjoyed our brief stay :)

Cool property with good location

Cool property, very safe with cams and code-locked door. No issues with noise, had a pretty quiet peaceful stay. Good parking situation, that’s something I was worried about but we never had problems parking. Unit is very close to transit lines. My girlfriend and I were out walking very late and never felt unsafe in this area.
