I stayed at the Holiday Inn Birmingham City Centre this past weekend with my partner for one night. Overall, the hotel was fairly clean and check-in was straightforward and efficient, which we appreciated after a long day of travel. The location is also excellent—very central and convenient for exploring the city.
However, we were disappointed by the lack of air-conditioning in the room. This was not communicated to us either during check-in or beforehand via email. A fan was offered, but this was not a sufficient substitute, and although there was mention of a complimentary bottle of water to help with the heat, this never arrived. Thankfully, the weather was not as hot as it has been recently, otherwise we would have found the room extremely uncomfortable. As it was, we just about managed, but had we known in advance, we would likely have booked elsewhere.
In summary, the stay was adequate for one night and the location is great, but the lack of transparency around room amenities—particularly something as essential as air-conditioning—is a let-down and something to be aware of before booking.
