NIce hotel with free overnight on-street parking outside, which starts charging at 9am - if you get a £1 parking disk from local stores you can use to set an arrival time for the next morning which will give you til 11am and can be used widely across Northumberland. The stairs are tight, so if you have heavy luggage you may struggle. Breakfast was great and made getting up for the 10am check out worthwhile.

A perfect place to stay for a night or even longer

Really lovely and cosy hotel in the heart of the town. They thought of everything - even the welcome book that had a history of the building and the local area. It was engaging and fun to take time to read. The facilities were excellent and the breakfast served was tasty and set us up for the day. I would 100% recommend this hotel to everyone.

Is unstaffed, hence staff score. The staff we did see were friendly and efficient. Breakfast was ok. For me, it was nice to have the run of the place. The hotel was quite cold during the day, even in the rooms (but it was cold outside, to be fair).

There are better hotels

Nobody available during check-in. They sent a message via sms however, they didnt do this until we were at the hotel. The message contained a key code to get into the empty hotel but when we got to our room there was no key in the door. We phoned them.and they said just to use another room.with a key in the door....what a faff.

Our first experience wasn't great because we discovered the Queens Head wasn't tended full time and we had to call an emergency number. However,we discovered that the sister hotel, the Castle had a room and in the circumstances they paid for a taxi to collect our luggage so all was well in the end. The Castle was very cosy and the staff were very helpful and polite

Comfy room with great breakfast.

A very comfy room and the few staff we met were great. Breakfast was excellent and Heather was a gem! A bit disappointing that the hotel is closed apart from the rooms and breakfast service. It’s not that evident when you book so maybe they should make it more obvious. Parking was free in the car park 100 yds away but only for 24hrs at a time. So we parked there through the day and then moved the car to the street outside the hotel which has free parking from 17:30 to 09:00. Our only concern was the fact one person left the front door open twice and with no staff at the hotel we felt a little vulnerable. We would stay again though.

What a disaster! As instructed, we tried to phone the hotel before arrival for instructions, no answer! We asked for help from Expedia, but nobody answered them! There was nobody in the hotel when we arrived at 5:30pm, fortunately the front door opened, I wandered the Hotel and found keys hanging in 3 doors, so chose one! It didn't represent the room advertised or paid for but was better than sleeping in the car! One highlight was the lady who prepared breakfast, but ironically, she had been temporarily locked out of the Hotel that morning. We tried calling the Hotel number in the morning without answer. On returning to the Hotel later, there were still no staff present, and our room hadn't been cleaned. In fact, the only person we met in the 2 nights we were there was the breakfast lady who was great at her job but knew nothing about what happened in the rest of the Hotel. Its fortunate that we have a sense of humor, or this nightmare could have spoiled our whole trip! In summary one would expect for the price paid at least some customer service and you could also consider the safety concern of running a Hotel with no staff!

Great hotel. Not good restaurant.

Decided to stay here as we had previously had a lovely meal . Unfortunately restaurant is now a bar/ bistro with only basic pub food. As my husband is disabled and we had not brought his wheelchair with us we were stuck and could not go elsewhere. Also barmaid did not know what a bloody Mary was not had heard of lea and Perrin's to go in it!! Hotel fine but restaurant a great disappointment.
