This house has a large living kitchen area which is very nice for groups. It is convenient to the Peaks of Otter and has a lovely view of the Peaks in the front. It's location in the middle of an apple orchard is lovely. While the house was clean the stove, and, in particular, the oven were not. The only bathroom is off the kitchen some distance from any of the bedrooms. The beds appeared to be doubles, not queens, and the mattresses were not great.

The most peaceful vacation I have had in a long time. My grandson love exploring the orchard and riding his bike with his dad . Felt like we were visiting family. Can’t wait to book again!

Perfect setting

Beautiful farmhouse set in the middle of the orchard at the foothills of Peaks of Otter. Quiet and peaceful and Ronnie was so helpful and kind. Loved the farm store too. Hope to come back to visit again! Thank you for having us.

Summer stay in Bedford

We always love staying at the Homeplace it is like being at home but while on vacation. It's comfortable it has all of the amenities that are needed and it is centrally located to all the activities that we find fun, hiking, Swimming at Smith Mountain lake, going to winery's meaderys etc. and the beauty that surrounds the house and the orchard just can't be beat. Thank you to the Gross family for always making our stay warm and welcoming.

We booked this property for a weekend stay. Flew up from Florida. At check in time still hadn't heard from owner. Messaged and tried to call multiple times over the next 4 hours. VRBO support was unable to help. Only ended up going to the house because the owner called as VRBO was cancelling the reservation. House has double beds, not queen. House has one bathroom in the kitchen, not 2. Power went out for hours one day along with the water and the heat. Woke up to people working in the orchard not 20 feet from the house one day. Not good for my wife and daughters. Probably the most disappointed we've ever been in a rental. VRBO said they would recommend to the owner a partial refund. Did not hear anything about it, nor any apology for making us sit in a rental car for hours waiting to hear from them.

Apple Valley Homeplace

We needed a place for family to gather while coming and going from Lynchburg and Liberty University. The size of the home and the setting were great! We had plenty of elbow room and loved seeing the goats and donkey and a wonderful walk through the orchard. The drive into Lynchburg was easier than expected, but this location is definitely off the beaten path and meant once you get back to the house you stay. The bathroom needs some TLC and upkeep. This is definitely an older farmhouse feel and just needs a deep clean.
