Hotel with lots of potential but felt a little dated in parts. Seems very understaffed. Bar and restaurant staff are slow because it seems they are doing multiple jobs at once. All are lovely and helpful though. Paid for a massage and it started 10 mins late and finished five mins early.

This was our first stay at Douro Palace and as we arrived and parked up we were amazed with location and appearance of the site. We were really pleased with the welcome we received and then when we arrived at our room, which we had booked with a river view, were amazed with the view - we’d really recommend a river view room. We enjoyed the outdoor pool that was available 24 hours with a bar open in the daytime. We ate both nights we stayed at the restaurant which had really good portion sizes and the food quality was impeccable. The breakfast had a really good selection too and was all of very high quality. We’ll be sure to recommend Douro Palace to anyone we know is visiting the area! We did realise it’s a bit of a drive for the main, well known, wineries and boat trips but the quality of the hotel made that a ‘not problem’!

Absolutely stunning property with a very thought out layout and design. The rooms were very comfortable and quiet and had blackout curtains. The restaurant onsite was also delicious and offered a wide range of options. The SPA was so nice and had the best couples message ever.

Very nice hotel and spa with an excellent riverside location. The grounds are very nice and the rooms have excellent views of the Duoro river. The rooms and bathrooms are good and the breakfast was very good. The reception, bar and restaurant staff were very helpful and worked hard. The restaurant was OK but not exceptional. Overall, an excellent hotel.

Beautiful property and amazing staff. The weather was a bit rainy but it was still very beautiful and the indoor pool was amazing. You do need to wear a swim cap for the indoor pool though. Good breakfast as well

Do not stay at this hotel if you don’t rent or have a car! The hotel has a beautiful architecture and view, the food is great and the staff nice but transportation are highly limited. They do not truly offer shuttle to and from Porto, we were there during the train strike and were stranded, we had to pay very expensive uber-taxi etc. to go visit around and it took a long time to have access to them, going back to Porto was also quite stressful and expensive and in the end the cost of everything really wasn’t worth the hotel. The staff were nice but they couldn’t really help. I would recommend only if you can have access to a car.

Wonderful surprise

This hotel is in a beautiful remote location in the Douro Valley. It is a spa style hotel. The breakfast buffet was wonderful. Staff on desk ere very helpful. We like the dining room food better than the bar menu (just our choice).
