About this property
Foot of the Mountain Farmhouse-New Upgrades!! Air conditioning!
About this space Foot of the Mountain Farmhouse is a 180 year old home at the base of the North Mountain in Sheffield Mills within a 15 minute drive to nearby towns on one side and the scenic Bay of Fundy on the other or 1hr 20 minutes to Halifax, the South Shore or Digby. The Farmhouse is a spacious home with 6 bedrooms, 3 baths, 2 living rooms and multiple spaces including patios on both sides for multiple families or a group of friends to gather together, use as a launchpad or find quiet spaces to unwind. The space The Farmhouse is a spacious getaway surrounded by nature, birds and the resident chipmunk, but still 15 minutes from major towns in the valley. Child and pet friendly, the home has a fenced in front yard and child accessories available (crib, high chair, stroller, baby gates and monitor). Rooms are spacious but retain original character with wide planked floors and sloped ceilings in the upstairs rooms. It is a great launch pad for attending events in the area, exploring the Annapolis Valley, or relaxing with a group of friends or family.
The outdoor space is a highlight of the property. Both patios on the north and south sides are surrounded by gardens with great views. The main patio has sitting, eating and campfire areas with a rock water feature, nestled under a 200 year old Maple with a view of the riding ring and fields of the neighbouring equestrian centre. The north side faces the mountain and a family owned vineyard.
The nearby towns of New Minas, Wolfville, and Kentville are a 15 minute drive in one direction; Halls Harbour, Scotts Bay and Blomidon in the other. Most immediate needs can be found in the adjacent village of Canning (4 km) which offers several options for dining in or take out, a local meat market for fresh options for the grill including local vegetables and baked goods, a grocery store including a liquor store, pharmacy, spa, art gallery and more. The Farmhouse is a short drive to many wineries, beaches, golf courses, lobster dining, hiking sites such as Cape Split, and outdoor theatre at Ross Creek Centre for the Arts.
Inside, a bright open kitchen is the gathering place for friends and family. The fully functional kitchen includes a microwave, coffee maker, dishwasher, a seating area and a kitchen table for morning coffee. The dining room with original floors, and a brick wall from one of the original chimneys with a built in dutch oven accommodates a large group comfortably for dining. There are two living rooms including one with a wide screen tv. Multiple bookcases throughout the home offer books and games for all age groups and interests.
Upstairs, there are five bedrooms, a full bath, while downstairs has an easily accessible bedroom with connecting ensuite. There is also an additional full bath/laundry room on the main floor. Recent upgrades include air conditioning in all rooms, but one (fans provided in that room), propane “wood” stove, and new windows. There are two sets of stairs going to the second floor; a standard set and the original steep back stairs common in homes of this era that should be used with caution. Baby gates can be provided upon request. Guest access The entire home and property are available to guests for their private use, excluding out buildings, basement and attic. There are two driveways with parking on either side of the house. Guests will enter on the north side of the house when they arrive via an access code for the north door. This home is a must visit for people who love quirky older homes with loads of character. There are many modern features, but the original personality of the home remains. Our host was amazing. She communicated everything we needed to know and helpful tidbits in the leadup to our visit. She answered all our questions and anticipated our needs. The property had something for everyone in our family: amazing night sky viewing, a claw foot tub to soak, a large yard to run around, sprinklings from The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock for the poet, space to spread out, to mention just a few. Our only regret was we couldn't stay longer.

What a wonderful place this turned out to be for our first ever visit to Nova Scotia. Our host left a few pleasant surprises to welcome us to her farmhouse and we loved them. All our needs were met and our party of 8 felt right at home. The beds were comfortable and there were plenty of towels for everyone (which is important when you have a large group). I highly recommend that guests take a morning walk up the road to the host family’s vineyard and take in the breathtaking views. I definitely see us staying here again should we be fortunate to return to Nova Scotia one day.

Farmhouse charm and energy
Being a family that appreciates and grew up in the country, The farmhouse made us all feel very much at home away from home. It accommodated my parents on the main level with ensuite bathroom and air conditioning, nice to spoil them after all these years. The upstairs, my sister and her son had two rooms to themselves and my wife an I had a beautiful room to call our own. There are additional rooms upstairs if we ever wanted to bring more quests on our return trip, which we will definitely do. The nice claw foot tub in the upstairs bathroom was a highlight for those wanting some time to relax and decompress. Playing catch on the front lawn with my nephew and father was a great way to spend an afternoon. We even enjoy a few games of washer toss. One of the highlights for us was the beautiful patio with lots of seating and a nice breeze throughout the day while we enjoyed cold beverages and freezies. The kitchen had everything we needed to make delicious meals for everyone throughout the weekend. Nice quiet neighbourhood made for some enjoyable evening strolls along the vineyards perimeter road. The horse lover in our group (Mom) was excited to see a horse event next door, she was able to enjoy watching from the patio. If you arrive around early July there is a stunning Cherry tree with the sweetest cherries we've ever had. I am not sure how to describe how perfect this place is for a group or family, but it is. I'll leave you with this picture to showcase how relaxing it is.

A haven
This property is a bastion of peace. I am grateful for thé warm communication from the host, Nova, the freshly baked bread and the wine, and invitation to walk the orchards next door. We stayed at a difficult time when a family member who lived nearby was passing and the beautiful stone patio and splashing fountain as well as the mountain and vineyard views were good Medicine. Overall excellent
