Johanna offered such generosity and care as our host during our time in Kefalas. With great recommendations we were able to explore the local area and venture off for day trips. If you are a birder, bring binoculars as the cottage roof is a great spot for getting to know the birds of Kefalas. Johanna’s gardens are inspiring and I appreciated our conversations about the land and nature around the property. I’m not sure there is an adequate way to express our gratitude. Our time in Crete felt like a dream.

Wonderful, relaxing vacation! The little cottage suited us to a tee, the garden wasn’t formal at all and was very comfortable to sit in. All you heard were the birds, bees and the bell on the sheep at the end of the end of the yard. It was very private from our hosts home. The views from the upstairs patio were amazing! On the last morning we realized we hadn’t gone up after dark, so missed what I would imagine is excellent star gazing. Something for next time! And if you enjoy the company of cats and dogs, you will get your pet fix. Not overwhelming, just enough to make it homey. Thanks Johanna for making this feel like our home away from home!!

Beautiful stone cottage in a very private setting. Host provided an extravagant welcome basket that was thoughtfully put together and took care of our basic needs for days. Luxurious linens, comfortable bed, good books on the shelf and just a short drive to octopus bay made for a most comfortable stay. Would stay again in a heartbeat!

Our stay with Johanna has been amazing! She was very kind and welcoming, provided us with lots of information about where to eat/shop/what to visit. When we came, there even were some groceries in the fridge for us. A highlight for sure was the large private garden and the cats and dogs who would come by every now and then to visit.

Perfect Anniversary

We had an amazing stay. If we come back to Crete we will be staying here again. We loved the home and the pets were so sweet. They even came by on our last morning to say good bye. Thank you for a great 25th anniversary!!

Lovely house among olive groves

This was our first holiday away together without family since covid. It was very relaxing and the weather was fantastic. It’s a great location being around halfway between Chania and Rethymno. There is a lovely terrace at the property with a hot tub (which we didn’t have hot as the temperature was well in the 30’s) Altogether a lovely place to stay

Peaceful retreat between mountains and sea

A very relaxing place to stay, beautiful surroundings and just a short distance to local tavernas and shops. Happy Love Nest

This is a very charming, well appointed and well located cottage that offers relative privacy, with owners close by for any assistance required. Much of Western Crete is easily accessible without feeling too close to tourist traps. As animal lovers we enjoyed regular visits from the owner’s cats and dogs! Ideal for couples looking to set up a great base to explore this glorious island.

Dream honeymoon

This place is a true gem, a real hideout in the midst of a wonderful nature area. The house is built with so much detail and warmth, and the hosts provided some wonderful fresh local products as sma welcome. Overall they were very helpful and offering many suggestions and tips for places to visit. But the house has everything you will need, even if you would just want to stay home all day and relax!

Beautiful property, quiet location

Sitting in an olive grove, with beautiful gardens around, this is a really comfortable villa. Everything you need with a sunny rooftop area. Friendly pets around and Johanna looked after us very well. Great walks nearby and a beautiful base for exploring the area. Two local restaurants in walking distance, a small supermarket, and Vamos with a brilliant bakery a short drive away.

Wonderful tranquil retreat

We enjoyed a marvellous week at this beautiful villa set amidst olive trees and with a spectacular view of the White mountains from the roof terrace. Well placed for trips to Chania, Rethymno, Aptera, the beach and local villages. The villa itself is beautifully designed and very well equipped. Fun visits from the owners' dogs and very affectionate cat! A very peaceful setting - wonderful for anyone needing to relax and unwind. We will be keen to visit again some time!

Beautiful rural retreat!

We loved our stay at Johanna’s Kelafas home. The home was very private, beautifully decorated with many personal touches and everything needed for our stay. The grounds are beautiful, flowers, herbs, fruit trees! We especially enjoyed the fresh grate fruit! Great place to enjoy day trips to the beach, rural villages for an authentic Greek experience and restaurants in the area. Johanna was lovely and very responsive with recommendations to the area. Don’t hesitate to book her place!

The Perfect Retreat

My husband and I loved our stay at Villa Oreastro! The interior is so warm and relaxing and the upstairs porch had stunning 360deg views with stunning sunsets. Johanna was so welcoming and even made us a reservation for us ahead of time at a local Greek taverna for Greek Easter lunch (best food I’ve ever had in my life!). And to top it all off, she has the cutest pups that come visit you everyday to say hello! We hope we can return to Crete for another stay in the future!

Cretan haven

Perfect choice for a couple seeking a respite from city life. The cottage had everything we needed, including local provisions from the host. We were there during a heatwave, but the stone walls and ceiling fans kept us cool. We loved the magical garden and the roof terrace with views of the mountains, sunsets, and starry skies. Not to mention visits from the friendly cats and dogs. Great location for exploring the villages and beaches of the Apokoronas peninsular and further afield. We were sad to leave!

Beautiful villa, brilliant trip!

We had a wonderful stay here. Johanna was helpful, responsive and kind in letting our daughter interact with the dogs. The villa is beautiful and was a highlight of our trip. It has lovely fittings and is set up with absolutely everything you need! The veggies, cheese, bread etc on arrival were much appreciated and the olive oil soooo delicious! There is plenty to see and do in the neighboring towns and the garden/rooftop are both lovely for relaxing before or after exploring for the day. Highly recommended!
