Luxury 1860s Cottage, Gin Nook & Vineyard Views

Wake up to vineyard views at the front, then watch sheep graze in the paddock out back. With kangaroos, kookaburras, and the occasional koala passing through.

The Gladys is a beautifully restored 1860s cottage in the heart of the Adelaide Hills wine region, with two king bedrooms, its own gin nook stocked with a welcome bottle of Dapper Chap Gin, and outdoor spaces made for slow mornings and long evenings by the fire pit.

Sip, stroll, and recline into the luxurious comfort of the Hills.

Step through the door of The Gladys and let the world slow down. This lovingly restored 1860s cottage was built to be a place of slow mornings, lazy afternoons, and evenings that drift past without you noticing the time. Two spacious king bedrooms offer plenty of room to spread out and unwind, the lounge room is warmed by a combustion wood fire with plenty of wood supplied so you never need to think twice about keeping it burning, and the dining room is anchored by its own gin nook, where your welcome bottle of Dapper Chap gin is waiting to be poured.

The kitchen is fully equipped for whatever you're in the mood to cook (or not cook), complete with a DeLonghi pod machine and AeroPress for the coffee purists. Every other small touch inside has been chosen with care, from al.ive body products in the bathroom and kitchen, a Dyson Supersonic hairdryer, a BOSE speaker along with a record player, for the soundtrack to your stay. A laundry, reverse-cycle air-conditioning, filtered rainwater, free WiFi, and a large lockable storage room for bikes mean nothing is missing, only the rush of everyday life.

Outside is where The Gladys truly comes alive.

At the front, a stunning dining terrace looks out over one of the most beautiful vineyards in the Adelaide Hills, with rows of vines rolling toward the horizon, made for long lunches and slower glasses of wine. As the light softens, settle into an Adirondack chair by the fire pit and watch the vineyard turn gold. Out the back, a different kind of magic waits: rolling farmland views where sheep graze in the next-door paddock and kangaroos hop through at dusk, taken in from an undercover BBQ patio with a Beefmaster four-burner grill. Keep an eye out for kookaburras calling from the gum trees, and if you're lucky, a koala dozing somewhere overhead.

With a quarter-acre of landscape-designed gardens and lawns, a round of Bocce or Connect 4 to while away the afternoon, and a large carpark for easy arrivals, every inch of the garden has been considered for the way you'll actually want to spend your time here.

You'll find the pantry already started for you: Uraidla Bakery sourdough and butter, farm-fresh eggs, Beerenberg jam and honey, a bottle of CRFT wine made just down the road, your welcome Dapper Chap gin, and Urban Brew compostable coffee pods, made right here in South Australia. It's a first morning's breakfast and an evening's indulgence, already taken care of.

And because this is a place built for breathing out, not rushing in, check-in opens at the unusually early hour of 11am, and check-out isn't until 2pm, so there's no need to watch the clock on either end of your stay (a two-night minimum applies). All of this sits 250m from the CRFT Cellar Door, 3 minutes from Uraidla, 10 minutes from Stirling, and just 25 minutes from the Adelaide CBD: close enough for convenience, far enough to feel like you've truly left the everyday behind.

The house was immaculate and Tyson left so many lovely little extras - wine, gin, breakfast items from the local bakery, marshmallows for the fire pit. These made our stay very special. The house was incredibly clean and well catered for in terms of the kitchen - we didn't do much cooking - but all the equipment was available if needed. The location was close to lots of nice wineries - especially CRFT which was just 250m down the road. The only downside I would say is that it was just off a main road which was quite busy; it wasn't expected but I may have missed it in the description!Overall we had a really wonderful stay and would highly recommend it.
