Golden Tulip L’Escaut

The hotel is situated in a small town where you can hardly meet any tourists. My room was on the ground floor and it had 2 levels - the bed and the bathroom were situated on the upper level and the table with the lamp and mini-bar were on the lower level. The bed was huge and nice, the room was quite big and piecefull at the same time. The total impression of the hotel was good.

I love L'Escaut (French for the River Schelde) for its nice location near the centre of a lively little town (good & relaxed shopping!) and at only 50 meters from the river shore with +++ panoramic views, sea birds and a mini beach ;-) Nothing spectacular, but spacious, light, friendly athmosphere; good breakfast and river view from the higher rooms. Good value for money! And something I really appreciate: rooms are really clean. Immaculate. In the Netherlands hotels are not always 100 % hygienic alas. This venue I trust. Nice and trendy eatery too.

Stayed here on business, this small hotel is very clean and very friendly with an excellent restaurant. Good selection of high quality food at breakfast and excellent standard of food served in the evenings. I ate here twice, had a lovely seafood salad the first time and a 'gourmet style' burger the second time - both were great! Other choices included steaks, chicken, seafood, salads ( plus others I can't remember!). My only negative is that some rooms are right above the bar and are extremely noisy ( I was moved with no issue after the first night) and whilst the hotel is spotlessly clean, the rooms are a little dated. Location is great too, in the small and quiet town centre and right on the seafront, with long stretches along the front for running, walking or cycling. I would stay here again and recommend it, but I'd ask for a quiet room upfront.

The Golden Tulip is located at the see side of the Schelde with a nice view if the weather is good. The hotel is clean and rooms are big enough for 2 adults and 2 kids. The restaurant in the hotel offers nice food for dinner. The prices for food are quite high though.

Arrived in Terneuzen and the L'Escaut was the first hotel I noticed from the bus stop, a short walk and I had booked a room with the receptionist who was friendly and helpful. I stayed one night in a double room, the room was quite large, a seating area, a raised sleeping area and a fair sized bathroom. The Hotel was air conditioned which was great as it was a mega hot weekend day, the staff had also closed the curtains to keep the heat out before I arrived. Breakfast was continental with eggs and bacon as well, plenty to eat on a self serve basis. The Hotel is not far from the river, just walk across the road and it's over the bank, rooms with a view to the river are available. The town is just around the corner from the Hotel, loads of bars, restaurants and lovely old shops and churches to look at. Reception was fantastic, they take time to talk to you and give advice when you request it. I left an item at the Hotel when I returned to the UK and this was not only kept for me but rapidly despatched to my home address where it arrived safely a couple of days later. The Hotel appears to be quite old so watch out for steps in odd places, like going into my room there was a small step of about 10cm, also the shower needs a bit of care, it is not the thermostatic mixer type of valve so if you are not aware you can knock the tap and either get freezing cold or boiling hot water. Would definitely recommend to anyone and stay again if I return to Terneuzen.

I've recently stayed here on a business trip. The rooms are fairly large, with a safe and mini-fridge. Bathroom is okay, even I wasn't too impressed with the cleanliness. I don't believe my floors were cleaned even once the whole time I was there. The breakfast in the morning was excellent. Lots of choices, wonderful breads and cold cuts, bacon and eggs, juices, muesli, etc. The restaurant also serves wonderful meals, that I can recommend. We also used the meeting room facilities at the hotel during our stay and the staff was very professional, helpful and courteous. Wonderful meeting rooms with all the electronic necessities.

My first impression of this hotel was very good. The room was very spacious, clean and the bed very comfortable. This changed overnight as it turned out to be the most noisy hotelroom I've ever slept in. The people in the room above sounded as if they walked in our room and when taking a shower you could hear the people in the room next to you as loud as if they shared your bathroom. I was quite dissappointed as the hotel is not cheap at all, I expected more of it.

Sometimes a hotel serves up the unexpected - and this is one of them. Situated on the West Schelde estuary, the ocean-going ships provided a moving seascape from the windows of our third floor room. Huge container vessels edge their way to and from the port of Antwerp while long narrow barges turn inland to negotiate the canals which reach deep into the Continent. The hotel is right on the waterfront and an ideal base if you are travelling by car and want to visit Antwerp, Bruges or the small towns of Middleburg and Vlissengen. The hotel has less than 40 rooms and creates an intimate atmosphere; the superior room was large, clean and quiet; the beds were comfortable and there's plenty of space to relax, look out the window - and watch the ships go by. There are some restaurants nearby offering good food but don't miss out on what the hotel has to offer. The inclusive breakfast menu offers plenty of choice and the dinner menu is well-prepared and tasty. Don't leave before you have sampled one of the fish courses. Terneuzen would not be on too many 'must visit' lists but the Golden Tulip L'Escaut certainly would be. If you are coming from England then make it a stop-off place between the French car-ferry ports and your journey further into Holland, Germany and Belgium. And find some time to watch the ships go by.

Recently stayed at this hotel on a business trip. Polite, friendly and efficient staff always had a smile and greeting for you. The bedroom was huge, the bed & pillows were very comfortable I had a first class sleep apart from the room was next to a wooden open plan set of stairs and it sounded as though we had been evaded by a herd of fairy elephants!!! My room was clean & looked as though it had been recently painted however my colleagues room was shabby & it let this lovely hotel down. I would stay here again.

3 day break in comfortable, clean hotel. Staff friendly and helpful. Huge room ( 206) with good view of shipping lanes. Very relaxing just watching these big containers going past. Very comfy bed, slept brilliantly, good strong wi-fi, air-con was wonderful, even in October, when most hotels have turned them off or onto heating only. Good for menopausal women who have to take a fan everywhere. Restaurant has very good food, but only ate there once as Terneuzen has many good restaurants within easy walking distance of hotel. Not much to do in Terneuzen itself but as we only wanted to relax, read books and stare out the window, this hotel was perfect.
