Really fantastic guest house hotel to stay when visiting York. Located just on the outside of the city wall, it’s just a short walk to the centre of the city. Convenient free parking is a bonus. The rooms are very well appointed and spotlessly clean. Owner is the manager and he and staff are friendly and very helpful. Beautiful dining room breakfast. A joy to stay here and highly recommended the Barbican for a short or long stay in York.

Location is great, free parking, quiet rooms. Expensive for room only, this is the first bed and breakfast I have stayed in where you have to pay extra for breakfast. Shower pressure very poor. Literature in room states 10% off for guests at a local restaurant unfortunately the is an old offer and no longer valid.

We got the room number 3 on the 2nd floor for 6 days. Highly recommended. Here’s why: - Room and private bathroom very comfortable with English decoration. - Extremely clean. - Generous complimentary teas and coffees, little biscuits (kit kat...)... - Breakfast extremely good and fresh (English breakfast + fruits + yogurt and more). - Warm welcome, kind owners, and still we had the feeling of being completely free (we got the key for the front door and were able to come and leave at will). - Excellent service. - No noise at all during the night (the noise coming from outside in the morning is just normal due to the very central location of the hotel!). - Very well located, central location (near the « points of interest » and there’s a Tesco open until 23:00 very closed if needed).

My husband and I have been visiting York for 21 years and we have Would not consider looking for other accommodation as the owners are lovely the rooms are clean nothing is too much trouble , the breakfast is amazing. Best guest house in York

The room was clean and spacious. Fluffy towels, toiletries and a flannel provided. The bed was comfy. The Barbican is quite close to a main road, so some may be awoken by the early traffic. It didn't bother us though. Durga was a great host, very warm and welcoming. The Barbican is perfectly situated close to the walls of York, ideal for most of the attractions. Breakfast was lovely, and great to have free parking. Will definitely come back again next time we visit York.

Myself & partner stayed here for the weekend. It is a lovely homely b&b and in a great location- just a short walk into York . The owners are welcoming and friendly. The rooms are comfortable and clean, the sherry is a lovely touch too. Breakfast is tasty and good value. I would happily recommend. Many thanks, Dawn & Leigh

My partner and I stayed here whilst visiting York to attend a Kiefer Sutherland concert at the Barbican. Getting to the B&B was easy with the sat nav. I was emailed by the owner the night prior to request an ETA. This was very helpful as Durga (owner) had parked his car in the only space available on the street to ensure that I had a space available to me. I must point out that there are a few spaces on the property, but as it was fully booked, in my mind Durga went above and beyond to ensure everything was in place prior to our arrival. We arrived around 12pm, whilst this was a little early, we were checked in by Durga's daughter. As the room was not yet ready, this seemed like the ideal time to walk into York and have a look around before the concert that night. We stayed in the ground floor room, which was on the roadside. The room itself was spotless and very comfortable. The bathroom was very clean also. If I had to mark this place down, it would be the noise from the road, it was very loud with all the traffic going past. Whilst this does die down in the evening, come 6am it's loud enough to wake you. The windows are double glazed and I doubt there is anything more the owners could do to reduce this. We live in the back end of beyond and perhaps are more tuned to noise. From the building you are about a 10 minute walk into York itself (along the walls) and a 2 minute walk to the Barbican. Breakfast the following morning was really nice, this is pre planned the day before on a card you fill in when you check in. Cereals out of a box if you wish and/or a full cooked breakfast. Just what we needed to power on through the rest of the day. I can't thank Durga enough, he truly does try his hardest to make sure everything is perfect and in our case, he did not fail. We would most definitely stay there again, but perhaps request a room off the road.

After purchasing tickets for Kiefer Sutherland at the Barbican we wanted somewhere nearby to stay after the event. Barbican house came up as the closest and we are glad it did. What a lovely family run B and B in a perfect Location for both the event and walk into York to see all the attractions. The family we’re so welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The room was spotlessly clean with everything you needed. We were on the ground floor in a king size double and it perfect for our one night stay. The breakfast was perfect and set us up nicely for the day. Parking was skilfully organised meaning we left our car for the two days we were off exploring without having to pay or worry where it was left. Thank you for such an enjoyable stay. We will definitely return.

We found this B&B by chance scouring for last minute accommodation. The Barbican is positioned close to the Barbican Theatre and just beyond the city walls with free off the road parking. The Barbican is owned & run by Durga and Bimala who are lovely and welcoming. The place was spotlessly clean, the room at the top of the house contained everything we needed with en-suite bathroom. The bed was really comfortable and we both slept well. The breakfast was optional and at £10 each, we thought very good value for money and a good set up for the day. We booked direct with the hosts rather than thru a booking site. I believe thru experience that you get the best deals

Stayed for two nights with my partner. Great location - close to the city centre (15 minutes walk) without being too close to the night life. Beautiful, clean Victorian style rooms with very friendly and helpful hosts. Nice added touches in the room too such as complimentary sherry and chocolate bars! Would happily stay again.
