Crowne Plaza Xuzhou Dalong Lake4.5 out of 5.0

The hotel is in a very peaceful and calm area, and generally very clean. Considering there are alot of flies in Xuzhou, this hotel does well to keep them out. The room is very clean, spacious and comfortable - with all the amenities you can expect from the Crown Plaza and IHG brand. Other areas are kept clean as well and staff are generally helpful. I had a problem with my AC and they were able to fix it quickly. The inroom dining selection needs some more work in the menu section with regard to their "ingredients". See photos. Lastly, the most improvement is needed with the staff's ability to understand and communicate in English. I understand this is a mainland China hotel catering for local needs but the foreign travellers sometimes need attention too. I would suggest the hotel hire one or two staff that are fluent in English conversation so that they can liase between English-speakers and local staff.
Great Crowne Plaza hotel. The room is very nice and comfortable, amenities are good, breakfast is great and the staff is very kind and polite. And the price for the room is one of the best cost-benefit ratio I've seen, so you can't go wrong when in Xuzhou.
The breakfast was great with lots of options. It's about a 15 minute taxi ride to town and depending on the taxi it costs about 20-30RMB. The staff are very helpful and there is a wonderful garden that takes you to the Dalong Lake.
A lovely hotel that is bit away from city center (10 miles) but in very nice surroundings. Service is excellent and staff is very friendly. Room was clean and had nice amenities, a refrig and hot water pot to make coffee or tea. Bed was comfortable. Good water pressure in the shower. This hotel has the best breakfast buffet in all my years of travel: wide selection of Western and Asian foods, artistically & charmingly decorated atmosphere to enjoy your meal, and very nice food service staff.
The gym and indoor pool are excellent but the club lounge is a little strange. It is located just alongside the lobby area is a set of oversize sofa's set a long way apart which makes it a little awkward for business conversations. Not a big deal though and would stay here again. The restaurant downstairs is very good too.
My boyfriend and I stayed in Xuzhou for a 5 day holiday, and we were very satisfied with the hotel. If you compare it to a Western hotel, of course it is not the same. But for Chinese standards, this hotel was heaven. ^_^ We stayed in several international hotels in China, and this one was the best so far. The room was spacious with our own private balcony AND a bathtub (very uncommon in China, even in the bigger, international hotels). The breakfast included a variety of Western food, such as freshly baked pancakes with fresh honey from the comb (yum!), a selection of fruits, croissants, cereals, etc. It might not be as big a selection as you'd get at home, but it is the biggest selection we have found in any Chinese hotel so far. Staff didn't all speak English, but they were very friendly and would generally run to get us someone who could understand us. Hand gestures get you quite far as well though. :) The restaurant is not very cosy, but it serves its purpose. As long as we had good food, we were not too bothered by this. The location is very serenic, next to the lake with a large park. We had lovely walks there and it looked like the locals enjoyed coming out there in their spare time as well. It's a bit outside of town, but the bus stop is right in front of the hotel. A taxi will cost about RMB 15-20, depending where you want to go. In summary, this is good value for the price and well suited if you are looking for a peaceful place to stay.
This a Hotel facing one out of 7 lakes in the town. So ask for the room with a view. In the evening I would recommend to go for a nice walk near the lake. The hotel is quite ok, the service is bit lousy. They have one of the strangest lobby bars I happened to see. Rooms are not small, amenities in place. Restaurant breakfast is quite decent. Only you would see tables connected for 8 people, what would not be common in Europe. I understood it was one of the best hotels in town.
I guess this is one of the best in Xuzhou, however the rooms are not clean. The bathroom was dirty with dead insects floating. The breakfast spread is also not that great. Overall average property. the view from the hotel is good.
I stayed here again last month and as per my previous post, I was totally satisfied with the room and it's appointments. But alas that is where it stops. As with most hotels in China everything is about the visual aspect. They build beautiful, modern hotels, furnish them lavishly and install all the latest gadgets. But they still lack the most important element. Management & finesse. The standards that may be acceptable to the local population is, mostly, unacceptable to the western traveler. Lets start with the coffee shop. 8am..The breakfast is mainly aimed at the Asian guest, so unless you like congee and rice etc the choice is very limited. The western dishes that were provided were totally unappetizing and looked as if they had been cooked hours earlier and were then left sitting in the bain marie's. I decided I'd try and get an omelette. It took me 10 minutes of pointing & gesturing to try and get the chef to understand that I wanted a cheese & tomato omelette. Eventually ( so I thought) he nodded that he understood. What eventually arrived was a a slimy, half raw egg pancake, minus the cheese & tomato which was inedible ( bear in mind this is an International 5 star hotel). So my breakfast eventually consisted of some toast & butter with some cheddar cheese from the cheese platter. Dinner. As this hotel is far from the city, we arrived back from work at around 7pm and decided to eat in the coffee shop. Big, Big mistake. Basically there is no A La Carte menu available except a few dishes that were presented to us on an an iPad (they only have 1 iPad for the entire restaurant we were told). The Maitre "d" did his best to convince us to have the buffet which we grudgingly decided to take as that was the only other choice. Again this was mainly aimed at the Asian guest which was fine as I love my Chinese food but this was a culinary disaster. Even my Chinese associate commented that the food was disgusting. The few western dishes that were provided were tasteless and cold. The restaurant service was was non existent. Dirty plates were not removed and the few staff that were around seemed to be totally uninterested. I don't know where the chef was trained, but I think he should ask for a refund for the tuition fees . Coffee: in the lobby is a small coffee shop and on arrival at the hotel, after a 5 hour trip, we decided we needed some caffeine. 2 cups of colored water were presented to us which had no resemblance to what a coffee should taste like. I am sure the young girl making the coffee has probably not had any training on how to use an espresso machine. Summing up the accommodation is good but that's where it ends...
If you're looking for a globally-branded hotel in Xuzhou, the Crowne Plaza is likely the best bet. The hotel is in the city's modern administrative and business district, and is a short drive from the municipal offices. The hotel is in a park-like setting overlooking a large lake. While there are no shops or other amenities within walking distance, there are walking trails around the lake. My sixth-floor room had a balcony and views of the lake. The room was clean and comfortable, but not especially large. Furnishings and fixtures are starting to look a little bit frayed. The bed and bedding were both of high quality. The bathroom fixtures were all clean, modern, and well-functioning, and there was a nice selection of toiletries. The neighborhood is quiet, and I slept very well. The hotel's basement level includes a large buffet restaurant. The breakfast selections are more oriented toward Asian fare, although eggs, cereal, and a few pastries are also available. The quality of the food was good, but not great, and typical of what's on offer in a provincial city with relatively few foreign visitors or residents. The health club has a reasonable array of modern equipment, and everything looked to be in good working order. Service at the Crowne Plaza was friendly and accomplished. Quite a few staff members speak English, and everyone was very attentive during check-in and check-out, as well as in the restaurant. Overall, the Crowne Plaza offers a decent combination of convenience, service, and amenities at a reasonable rate.
