Modern Nostalgia

This small hotel was perfect for our stay. Perfectly located for easy walking to the main streets, but not on a busy/loud street. The inside was a mix of modern industrial with a 1970’s overlay including shag carpeting and a VW mini bus. So fun and very comfortable. The breakfast was good as well.

If you come with a kid, make sure that you are aware that you will be charged with extra 25 euro for a kid bed, even if you haven’t asked for it. Because the hotel thinks that it is the default setting. And a kid could consume more electricity and water. 25 euro is not a big amount, comparing to the total amount of the room. However, I really don’t appreciate that it was charged for granted, without notifying the guests when they check in, and which is not part of their reservation either. Transparency is a big lack here.

I stayed at the Barthels for two nights, arriving after a very long drive and immediately being able to relax. It’s clean, modern, and comfortable and in an incredible location right in the heart of the old town of Würzburg - I could see the cathedral dome right outside my window! Despite that, it wasn’t noisy and I wasn’t ever woken up to the sound of church bells chiming or street noise. There’s no parking at the hotel but there are so many car parks nearby it wasn’t a problem, and I enjoyed the walk across the Old Bridge every morning to the place I’d chosen to park. The staff were friendly and the overall vibe was great. Würzburg is a pretty city and The Barthels was the perfect base to explore it from.

The room was large it the layout was very uncomfortable. There was no closet, only one metal chair, no space for bathroom belongings . The sealing was unfinished and only partially painted.
