Fly into the Wolgan Valley (from Sydney) on a helicopter and you will feel that you have entered Shangri-La. The resort is breathtaking. On the first full day we hiked Donkey Mountain with Matt as our guide. The top of the mountain gives you the best overall view of the valley and the resort, which is the only tourist destination in the Valley. On the second full day we hiked with Jack to see the abandoned RR tunnel to see the glow worms. Both exerpeinces and both guides were exceptional. Other than hiking, there is biking, horseback riding, archery and fabulous opportunities to see kangaroos and wallabies. Five star service as well.
We stayed there for a weekend, and overall enjoyed our stay, but left underwhelmed. There were so many things wrong with the stay, and very little 'wow' to this stay. Things that were disappointing; - The hotel came to do a turn down, waking our baby (we were in, and they mistimed). This happened twice! - The food from the cafe good, but the service was slow - The restaurant was appalling. We booked the amazing babysitter (whose name escapes me) and were in the restaurant for 3 hours. In this time, it took over an hour to get some food. It was actually my birthday, and they were meant to do something (I was unaware) and forgot. We ran out of time, but as we were leaving there were two other tables screaming at the staff as they hadn't been served/received meals at 10:45pm! The staff gave us a block of chocolate as apologies for not getting my birthday surprise. Upon inspection when we went back to our Lodge, the chocolate was out of date! Our test of a place is asking 'would we want to go back?' and we both agreed that we wouldn't. Visiting once is enough, but it's not worth the time, effort or the money for a return. We are however glad we went and saw it. It's a stunning location, and the pool inside your lodge is an amazing amenity. However, even the pool seemed a bit worse for wear and in need of maintenance.
I was really looking forward to staying here, but was unprepared for how much I loved it! Get yourself there immediately! The service was amazing - everyone was so friendly and knowledgeable. I was very impressed with the manager doing breakfast service to keep in touch with how everything was running. The staff uniforms were indicative of the nature of the place - well presented yet unassuming, relaxed yet smart and quintessentially Australian. If you are travelling from overseas, this would be an incredible spot to see rural Australia just 3 hrs drive from Sydney. The Wolgan Valley scenery is amazing - such a spectacular setting, and full of wallabies and wombats. Grab a bike and head out to explore. Bikes at every cottage was great. The cottages are very luxurious, again in a very understated way - they are firstly huge with own pool, fireplaces and verandahs, and well stocked with inclusive minibar. Dinners, lunches and breakfasts were very generous and delicious and the staff amazing at handling requests. I can highly recommend the Glow worm cave walk. The only small problem I had was that all the advertised activities included in the rate were actually a little disappointing when you read what was included, and anything really of interest was at a (considerably large) extra charge. I would suggest not making such a big deal of having a maximum of two activities included daily. Having said that, I cannot recommend it highly enough, have told everyone to go, and I would love to go back immediately!
There is no doubt about it, this place is expensive, but you DO get what you pay for and it delivers an outstanding experience! If you are planning something really special then you should consider a couple of days here. The accommodation is all set out in unique villas - there are only 40 so it is very exclusive. There is nothing else for miles around either, so you really do feel like you can 'get away from it all'. The standard of the villas is wonderful - the bed is superbly comfortable, the view from the deck is fantastic and there are loads of added extras such as an in villa swimming pool, inclusive mini-bar and bikes to enable you to go exploring around the valley. Three meals a day and standard wines / beer are included and the food is to a very high standard. There are also a number of inclusive activities which you can enjoy during your stay, along with some the cost a little bit more. We were lucky that our visit coincided with a weekend in which a professional photographer (Josh Smith) was visiting and we were able to get some hints and tips to improve our photography. We were also able to use these tips to get some amazing photos which we were able to print out and take away with us. All in all a perfect weekend made possible by a superb location, great facilities and very attentive, friendly staff. Thank you. The
Our second visit to Wolgan Valley did not disappoint! It has a warm, friendly feel of luxury that is not at all pretentious. Staff are attentive and knowledgeable - nothing is too much trouble. The valley was looking spectacular after the recent rains and the greenery and cool weather drew out the animals in their thousands! A ride around the many tracks is a must, as is a visit to the old heritage homestead.
Just a couple of hours drive out of Sydney but you would think you are in the heart of Australia. So peaceful, with stunning scenery and active Australian wildlife. We did it all, horse riding, bush walking, rode the pushbikes, lazed by the pool, used our personal villa pools and general breathed in that beautiful fresh air! At night time, look up and see the stunning stars shining! We had our 3 yr old nephew with us, so it is a child friendly place too! All staff are well trained and professional, and we felt taken care of the whole time. Thanks Wolgan, we will be back!
Wolgan Valley is outstanding. From the moment we arrived everything was just perfect!! James & all the staff couldn't have looked after us any better. The food was exquisite - breakfast, lunch & dinner! I highly recommend going for a bike down to platypus point & having a picnic too, you couldn't find a more peaceful, relaxing place. Having all the kangaroos hopping around in such close proximity is something I've never encountered before either, such a unique experience! If you are considering staying here, do it - You will not regret it! Thank you so much to everyone at Wolgan Valley for looking after us!
Everything’s been said. It’s like flying first class. Likes: Exemplary service and enthusiasm, exquisite food, excellent accommodation, unbeatable setting in the Wolgan Valley with abundant wildlife. Improvements: could they move the clouds so that we can better stargaze? Can they train the rare platypus to appear more often and perform tricks? I’m joking. Had to make something up to provide a balanced review. Extra bonus : they have a Tesla charger so it cost me nothing to drive there !
Turning the corner in the road and seeing Wolgan Valley stretched out below with the resort in the far distance is a stunning sight. With around 40 villas and access to 7,000 acres in the valley, the resort feels peaceful and luxurious. The views in every direction are beautiful and change with the light. Bike and hiking trails and nocturnal animal viewing take you through kangaroo, wallaroo and wallaby mobs and Wombats. We also saw a fox and many birds. The staff know guests by name and do everything to make your stay perfect. The atmosphere got busier as the weekend approached, so come during the school term to get the most peaceful experience.
We had a really lovely time here. I came with my husband looking for a short stay, close to home, no planes needed, but somewhere that would feel like we were somewhere brand new and this was it. Such a beautiful place. Felt like I was on a tropical paradise/homestead luxury farm! Loved our Villa. Private pool was great (although maybe just couple degrees warmer would be perfect when the sun isnt directly shining on the water). Great selection of movies. Loved the caviar testing and dinner so much. Loved The wine selection. Food was delicious. Loved it so much. A really romantic and rejuvenating escape. Also the night sky was the most breath taking thing I've ever seen. We will definitely be regulars.
