I travel to Winnipeg lots and stay at the Sandman inn each time! It is my hotel of choice! It's very centrally located in the city close to everything! The hotel staff are exceptionally accommodating -friendly! The rooms never disappoint with the cleanliness and the spacious layouts! The price of rooms are affordable to say the least and they additionally offer airport shuttle free of charge and a park and pay if you are flying out! The hotel lobby is also very clean! Denny's restaurant is attached and great place to eat a very affordable breakfast and The Chop Steakhouse is also located here! Check your desks in the room for a small black card and seriously take advantage of the stay 12 nights get the 13th night free! It's a promotion they offer Canada wide at ANY of the Sandman Inn Locations!
This hotel is perfect for a stay the night before or the returning night of a trip out of Winnipeg. Anytime we fly out we choose the sandman, Denny's is attached to the hotel, you never need to leave. The beds are extremely comfortable and every single time I make a special request regarding pillows or towels they are accommodating. The value of this hotel for the price is outstanding.
Rooms are clean and comfortable, if a bit dated in their look (carpets and furnishings could use updating). A good gym, larger than average with a range of equipment, free weights, cardio rope, swiss balls, etc. The pool is more suited to kids than adults - a bit small - and the hot tub isn't as hot as some, again more suited to kids than adults. Service has been prompt and very friendly. Like all hotels, if there's a hockey tournament or other event that has the place full, expect service to take a bit longer. Denny's, onsite and open 24 hours, makes breakfast, etc. quick and convenient. Great if you have kids with you. Chop Steakhouse is onsite and open regular hours for a higher calibre of meal but is squarely aimed at adults. The lounge area is always busy with friendly staff and prompt service.
The beds are super comfortable, I had a great two-night sleep. The lighting is a bit low, but it adds a warm, cozy feeling to the room. There is plenty of, safe, parking in the back if you can't find a spot in the front.
Stopped in for 3 nights. Noticed the past reviews which had a string of poor reviews. Note the time of year (spring break, xmas vacation etc...) the experience I had was ok if your trip was for business. One thing which was true was the room was stuffy and the consumer AC unit didn't do a great job at controlling the room temp. The hotel didn't seem to have a HVAC, so I can see why that was the case. The lobby staff - super friendly, speedy check-in and room was clean. The shuttle to the airport runs every 15 min, but best to book your seat the night before. It is a literal 2 min drive to the airport. The Denny's & Chops are your immediate meal options, no continental breakfast in the hotel, but there are Tims & McD 500m away (10 min walk along Elice). There is a computer in the lobby to act as your "business center" which I used. That was nice to have. Wifi was not the best, noticeable during peak times. TV channels were on the basic side. The room layout was fine (had the single king), it could use a newer TV. Hallways were quiet and had good sleeps each night. Overall this is a suitable stop on a budget, I would pick this on top of Victoria Inn.
Stayed here for 4 nights for hockey tournament. Hotel was very nice and clean... just didn't find it suiting for 2 young kids (7 & 5). Pool was awkward to get to and didn't have any chairs to be able to sit so had to stand the whole time (2hrs each time we went) and was very inclosed And didn't like the fact that the hotel didn't have a continental breakfast or even a deal for the restaurant.
We went to check in and they only had one of the rooms we had reserved. They didn't seem to care and had no solutions to offer. There were three of there on business and luckily we were three women who get a long very well because we had to share a very small room with two double beds. There were no other rooms available and they do not have cots. We went to visit the pool and hot tub, which looks very nice on the website. You have to go down a very long hallway, which was a bit sketchy. Their pool area has no windows, the hot tub was more like a warm bath and the jets didn't work. We called down to ask for towels and they finally delivered them at 11:30 at night- we were asleep and the knocking woke us up. We didn't want maid service the next day but we called down for more coffee and tea. They left it all very unprofessionally in a grocery bag on the table. The snack area has very little selection. The only pro I have for this hotel is that the gym is pretty large, but the cardio machine are very old and there are not many of them. I will not be staying at this hotel again.
When I am in Winnipeg on my way to work or on my way home, these people make me feel so special. The place is clean, staff is friendly and respectful. 2 great restaurants, close to city transit, to shopping and grocery stores, etc. Thank you, guys.
Our flight was leaving very early so we decided to stay at the Sandman. I will say it will not be our last. The hotel is connected to The Chop, it's a steak house and amazing. Service all through the hotel was fantastic. I want to add, you can utilize their long term parking and they'll commute you to the airport.
Was on a road trip across western Canada, came here and spent three nights in June 2016. Overall, It was a good hotel to stay at and it was clean and maintained well. The front desk staff were helpful but quiet at times and a bit robotic but they answered any questions I had. The room was clean, large and the bed was comfortable but the mattress was a little hard. The room was a little drafty and cool as well at times but not too uncomfortable. The location is great, no complaints there. Not far from the trans Canada highway, close to some grab and go restaurants (ie subway, Domino's), a CHOP restaurant right next to the hotel and close to a Super Store as well. The main road to take you into town is not too far away either. This hotel is in a safer area of Winnipeg as far as I'm concerned. Didn't have any problems with anyone near by. They were doing some maintenance and cleaning in the lobby area so the area didn't look like it usually does but that's understandable. If I come back again, I would look this hotel up fur sure. -Ryan
