We are a group of dentists who trained together over 40 years ago at Guy’s Hospital in London. For the past 7 years we have had an annual reunion and this year we chose Mayfield House and we are so pleased we did. The hotel could not have been more accommodating. For a start, they put my wife and I on the first floor but she has difficulty with the stairs. My fault, I should have checked before booking. I did not realise ther was no lift. Not a problem for Mayfield House! They changed rooms for guests yet to arrive and put us on the ground floor. The food was excellent and served with a banter that we all loved! Our waitress was terrific and gave as good as she got from this group of 9 elderly juveniles! With regard to the food, breakfast was served freshly cooked for each guest. It was such a relief for all of us that we did not have to face the dreaded semi cold buffet of the Full English so prevalent in hotels today. It turned out to be the best hotel we have had a reunion in so far and it was all down to good food, excellent service and an very attentive staff. If you are planning one, this is a great hotel for a reunion.

Stayed for 3 nights on a Groupon deal, this proved to be excellent value for money. On arrival, there was plenty of space to park in the large car park,and the staff were friendly and helpful. The room was large, clean, warm and comfortable with the usual tea / coffee making facilities, TV etc. and free WiFi was available throughout the hotel, including the room. Breakfast was excellent, as was the evening meal (we had lamb shank which was superb). The only disappointment was that the shower in the en-suite which was definitely at the dribble end of the shower spectrum

Fantastic location, lovely hotel and appreciating the property's age it was very clean, very comfortable and full of character. The breakfasts were of a very high standard and the evening meals were delicious. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Good off road parking and lovely grounds.

I am disabled, but these wonderful people made sure that I had all the facilities I needed. The room was lovely, comfortable and big enough to be comfortable with my disability equipment. The staff were all nice, friendly and helpful.

Stayed here for 3 nights and have stayed in many places before can honestly say this is a fantastic place to stay in staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly nothing is to much trouble food is great would highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a good place to stay

Practical and clean accommodation with comfy king-size bed and very good bathroom. Our dogs were made most welcome and there is a good walk which starts directly opposite the hotel. We had a very respectable dinner and freshly cooked breakfast. All in all, good value for money and to be recommended.

The hotel has quite an awkward entrance, but thereafter all is well. The room was excellent, warm and welcoming. I personally do not like showers in baths, but this one was easy to control. A tiny little bit of tlc would not go amiss on the bathroom floor. We used the hotel as a centre to visit various National Trust properties and the national arboretum (for which the hotel provided tickets). The food was excellent well, and unobtrusively served. Overall there was a pleasant, warm atmosphere, and the staff were very helpful and professional. All in all I would wholehearted recommend this hotel. I want to go back!

On arrival made very welcome. Clean and tidy room. Nice breakfast. Roomed in the adjacent annex. The wall are thin and could clearly hear what was being said in the next rooms. The hot water system easily swung between skin removing hot and cold water in the shower if someone opened a tap in another room attached to the rooms water system. To be fair there is a sign warning you that the water is hot and they are not kidding. They need to fit thermostatic controlled showers to avoid injury. Would stay again if in the area.

We had been given a Red Letter Day meal for two last Christmas unfortunately this is the closest restaurant as we live in Cornwall. Anyway duly arrived for our meal and greeted by lovely staff who showed us to our table. Our choices were half pint of prawns and goats cheese with poached pear - both of these were ok. For our main course I had roast chicken and my husband chose the beef burger which was tough and uninspiring, he managed to eat the chips, very disappointing. The waitress did ask if our meal was ok and we did comment but that didn’t seem to get any response which should have been passed onto the kitchen. My husband by then decided that the safest option was ice cream and mine was chocolate and cherry trifle, just ok ! Overall a very disappointing choice and even the manager asked had we enjoyed our meal and we were honest, but his only comment was “hope we see you again” !! I think not. Hopefully they will put a little more thought into the food choices as I have read previous comments which appeared to be good,

We booked this hotel through groupon. The only reason we stayed the full two nights was because it is practically impossible to get your money back for anything purchased from Groupon and I did not want to upset my partner by walking out as she had made all the effort in booking the hotel. We stayed in this hotel for two nights during October 2017. The state of the room, No 5, we were allocated was appalling apart from the bed. We asked to be moved when we got there but were told this was not possible. There was wallpaper hanging from the walls, the wallpaper on the ceiling and corners was bubbling, the state of the shower with the curtain falling to the floor and the cracked and poorly finished plastering was disgusting and the chair needed completely re-upholstering as the plastic was flaking. When we mentioned to a member of staff which room we had been allotted we received raised eyebrows. There are levels of accommodation that are unacceptable and this was the case with Room 5 of the Mayfield House Hotel.  We were informed that the meal allowance was only £15.00 each even though the menu quite clearly stated the allowance was £28.00 per person. Possibly due to the fact that we had booked via Groupon?? So we felt as if we were being penalised for booking via groupon. On arriving at breakfast on the first morning of our stay we were greeted by very little choice on the serve yourself table. A couple of croissants were left an hour before the breakfast period ended and some cereal. Watered down orange and other juices. And a breakfast menu that was not all available. When I requested that the croissants be replenished I was ignored. In fairness the evening meal that we were served on the second night of our stay was acceptable and the waitressing staff courteous and helpful. The general condition of the hotel matched that of the room and although we both enjoyed our travels in the Cotswolds I personally would not wish to stay at the Mayfield House Hotel a second time. The Manager's response to our concerns, made via the customer services department of Best Western, was to make various excuses based on his perception of the hotel he runs. They certainly are not in accordance with my own. Not a venue I could recommend I am afraid.
