I want to start with how beautiful the island is. Where my expectations weren’t met on this trip is that the hotel (and other resorts as they’re all owned by the same family) are free riding off the islands beauty, and not investing anything into customer service or the hotels.
We’re on a 5 week trip around Australia & these apartments were the most expensive accommodation - again, I expect this because of the island, but also it was advertised as a 4* property & the pictures looked really good.
However:
- the sun loungers are hard plastic chairs, something you’d expect to see in a basic hotel in Benidorm. They were uncomfortable and burnt your skin if you touched them. The hotel only provided 1 beach towel which doesn’t cover the lounger. When we asked for a 2nd towel, they did provide them but only after resistance from the reception desk.
- the hotel is very dated. You can tell the bathroom and kitchen was renovated in ‘recent’ years but the furniture is dated & it needed a very thorough deep clean.
- the room wasn’t clean upon check-in, we had to ask to have the floor mopped as our feet were covered in bits & black with dirt.
- drinks can be bought from reception but no ice or cups are provided. That’s not what you expect from a 4* resort.
- cleaners knock your door at 8am & then it’s hit and miss whether they come back later.
The staff were friendly, the views were amazing and the grounds were immaculate. But overall, the hotel is not worth the price we paid
