The toilet was dirty and the rooms are small and stuffy! There are no nice rooms, the windows don't open and the plug by the bed wasn't working. So I wouldn't stay there again I've been to nomads and that's better tbh it was really disappointing.
I stayed here for 6 nights and while the price was excellent you really do get what you pay for. I stayed in a four berth room on the third floor. The room was quite small and the window was not able to be opened which I regretted living with strangers for this long and having no access to fresh air. I was not convinced that the linen was clean on my bed as the bottom sheet and the doona looked dodgy with hair and stains on them and didn't have a clean smell. The bathroom was okay but the shower cubicles really do need somewhere to store your things other than hooks. The kitchen facilities were well equipped and the place was kept clean however the biggest inconvenience was that noise carried through the entire building from the nightclub downstairs until after 2am each night, polluting the stale air further. I slept with my noise cancelling headphones and a few drinks in my belly just so I could fall asleep. For this reason I would not recommend staying here longer than 2 nights, as being in the city, one is not going to find peace.
Staying at base Wellington was good, not excellent, but not bad. The kitchen was clean and the rooms were small but okay. However, the wind kept me up all night. You are't able to shut the windows fully, and the wind makes the most terrible sound coming through the windows. The wifi is okay and the reception is nice. I would recommend it, but I have seen better places..
Stayed here for 2 nights. The room was 4 bedded though was too small. Very thin walls caused noise from outside in the hallway and along the street to be heard loud enough to affect sleep. We couldn't find a way to open the windows so our BO and musky towel smells tended to linger . Rooms and toilets were kept clean most of the time. However, kitchen was a mess in the evening. Good internet access and the first floor lobby area was a good place to lounge and socialize. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Would stay there again.
It was super windy when we were in Wellington and our room was in the front of the hostel so was quite loud in the night. But I guess that can't be helped. Great location as it's right by Te Papa and the harbour and the main bars. We walked to Mt Victoria too which was great. The cooking facilities were fantastic so really useful as we cooked every night
Stayed in base for almost a month was a great place ideal location great people! Highly recommend it. It's ideally located in Wellington very close to everything like supermarkets, bars etc. Reasonable prices. Good nightlife bars all located within a few minutes walk.
Stayed A couple weeks at the car park at the hostel. Is the cheapest option in Wellington, if you got a car where you can sleep in it. The premium 4$ wifi per day is just available in the lobby (sometimes at the first floor as well) and is very slow, too. Sometimes is the reception nice. But sometimes you got some people behind the counter, they don't give you a cup of water from the tap. They truely charge you for everything dryer, wifi and printer.
While almost everyone there was under 30, I am over 60. I had a private room which was simple and clean. No frills, but a stupendous view with a balcony looking out over the whole harbor. I ate dinner at a great restaraunt next door called Africa, and ate a hearty breakfast in the lobby before my early flight. Just a 2 minute walk to the bus to the airport.
Went to Wellington for a couple of days, and stayed at Base for those days, and it was pretty much what I was expecting, your gotta pay for your wifi, or basically for everything, the bedding are not washed everyday, so therefore some stains on it, the kitchens lack a lotta stuff and sometimes seems more dirty than the usual, and etc. But base is gonna be there always for your, for your last resort, and sometimes it`s not too bad.
It is close to the Harbour and to the little mountain where you can get a nice view on the city. They have a bar in the basement where there are specials every night, so for people who travel alone a good way to meet people. The rooms were fine and the kitchen was clean, we enjoyed our stay there.
