We stayed here for three nights last week. Unusual building makes this a great choice from more bland city centre hotels. Our children had a twin bedded room which was spacious with a very good bathroom. Ours was a double with a rather curious arrangement of a shower and washbasin in one corner and a separate toilet at the other side of the room in what we originally thought was a cupboard! This made for an interesting excursion should you need the loo in the night as you had to visit the cupboard then make your way across the room to wash your hands! Not helped by there being a step in the room just outside the loo, so doing this in the dark was fraught with hazards! That aside, the hotel is pleasant, breakfast was quite nice, although they kept running out of items, which then took a long while to replenish! Reception staff varied greatly. Once again, pleasant, but not exactly an enthusiastic welcome. Overall this was fine as a base but the double room was a disappointment.
This hotel is a former church. We liked very much everything ,it is absolutely special even if we did not like the fact that the shower is in fact a corner of the room. But I can understand the reason, I suppose it was not easy to adapt the new with the old. Very rich breakfast ,everything was perfect and the feeling of havig breakfast in the church...this is fantastic. The restaurant is very excusite ,this is a great elegant hotel in the centre of the city. The only negative is relating to the short time park in front of the hotel in order to take out our luggage to the reception. It was only a short stay ,maybe 2 minutes ,but in that short time some of the "good intended" neighbors called the parking inspectors and they gave us a fine of 175 Euro for stopping infront of the hotel. I have to thank that way to the hotel manager, a great person, she took the fine and said that she will take care and that we do not have to be worrird. And she took care , thank you so much! I will definitely return!
We have used this hotel a few times in the past - not in the future. Yet we travel to Poitiers regularly as we have a child who lives near. We booked a two-night stay a month in advance, but immediately discovered there were no flights to return to London on the second day. Called the hotel directly and asked to reduce our stay to one night only. This was refused as we had booked a 'non-cancellation' package. It was just 10 minutes after they made the booking but they were intractable. To add insult to injury we had booked a 'Privilege' room and they put us in a disabled room, charged us the full two days and even the second day's breakfast. Beware of Accor Hotels taking advantage like this. We were miserable.
We were due to stop in Tours but the accommodation in the apartment was awful, so we pressed on to Poitiers as we trust Mercure. Despite my concern at finding it in the maze of one way streets in the old city centre we found it well sign posted. A warm welcome in a cool air conditioned hotel was just what we needed. Turned out to be a really unusual experience as the hotel was built in and around an old disused church. Very well done and the staff were really great, both on reception and in the excellent restaurant. We stayed 2 nights and the location is ideal for walking to all the old city sights. All in all a good stop over and an interesting city. Not often I mark a hotel with 5 stars, but this hotel and staff thoroughly deserve it
Reserved a very nice superior room with outside access. Pity the wifi was so poor at O.25 Mbps. The owner of this hotel doesn't understand that guests want decent free wi-fi and at breakfast the ability to have a boiled egg. Poor restaurant staff, who stood by the "egg bath" haven't figured out how to turn it on. I assume their objective is to save any eggs from being boiled. We found this hotel very hard to access using a GPS due to all the new traffic restrictions in place in the center of town. It would have been nice for the hotel to have posted a map showing the best access route to the hotel. Another problem is that the nearest parking to this hotel is 200m down a very bumpy cobbled street if you exit the public parking through the right door. If you chose another exit you have a 1km walk around town. Again this is something that could have been posted on the hotel website. So in sum, this is a great hotel if you don't use wi- fi, don't mind dragging your luggage uphill over cobble stones and want to save eggs from being boiled.
Building is an old Chapel converted into Hotel, lobby is beautiful and so are the rooms, very good location and has an excellent Resturant, close to all the tourist places you would want to visit in Poitier.
We stay here every time we go to the south of France and when we return. It's such a friendly, smart, comfortable hotel. The rooms are a good size and clean. The restaurant is the highlight though. Absolutely melt in the mouth food!
The ceiling certainly needs to have maintenance work in 318, but other than that, the room worked well and was clean. The firm pillow was a joy, although for those who like soft low pillows, they were on the bed too.
The Mercure "Les Archives" was nicely built inside an older building, presumably some sort of town archives, as the name suggests. This makes for very interesting views of exposed arches, beams, and vaulted ceilings. My room was clean and quiet, Wifi was provided, and the restaurant is very good. The personnel was very friendly and helpful.
Impressed by the website and being a Mercure club member we booked a 'superior' room plus breakfast. The room was ok, not really 4*! Why? Very odd shape no doubt due to the building having been a chapel in a former life, paper cups for tea/coffee which means once you have used them they are obsolete. Really Mercure this is not in keeping with your international presence and other hotels have not stooped this low in this price range. We checked with the reception as to the classification of the room and was assured it was 'superior' because two columns from the former chapel were on show! Having had a hard day sightseeing we came back looking forward to an 'aperitif' in the bar. We went down at 5.30pm to find the bar closed and reception said no one was on duty until 6.30pm. Again I have to ask how a 4* hotel does not have a bar open before 6.30pm! Breakfast was nothing exceptional, in fact the scrambled egg had a skin on top and the sausages were almost inedible and of low quality. On the plus side the hotel is in a good location and the 'quiet room' we asked for was perfect.
