We stayed one night en route fro Madrid to Calais. The hotel was easy to find and we were directed to a local car park which has an arrangement with the hotel. The building is a converted chapel and adjoining building tastefully done up. It is in the centre of town. We did not eat in the restaurant but that was clearly busy. Would stay again.
The hotel personnel, Michel and Marie-? we're very helpful. Les Archives waitress Ihsen (sp?) was very thoughtful, friendly, and efficient. The restaurant was excellent but one should reserve to be assured of a place.
We stayed for one night here and two nights in the Hotel Europe (see the separate review). The Mercure is a nice hotel but not four stars and not worth the price we paid. In a very pretty building (an old church). Reception is friendly (they helped with the suitcase). Room was fine but quite bare and again not what you would expect for this price. Nice bathroom with toiletries, etc. It did have a kettle and tea/coffee but no proper cups. All very clean. It’s a good location (in the town centre, but it feels slightly out of the way – is particularly close to the station) and the room was very quiet. A perfect satisfactory option. However, they either need to drop their prices or improve their offering.
Unusual experience, at least in continental Europe, where religious buildings are seldom turned into restaurants or hotels (actually both in this case, a restaurant, Les Archives, being set on the ground floor of the hotel). But quite successful, the architects in charge knew their job. On the whole, a flawless hotel : top location (at walking distance from everything), comfortable rooms, professional and smiling staff. Perhaps one suggestion for further improvement : the breakfast buffet could offer less cakes and more vegetables. In any case, we will visit again, for sure !
One night in Poitiers and would certainly return to city and this hotel. Centrally-located, easy to walk to all attractions and rail station. Friendly staff. Good-sized room with shower room at window, lovely touch.
Excellent location, right in the city centre, with underground secure parking. The style is a bit 'dated' but it goes with the style of the building and was spotlessly clean. Room had a lovely terrace to sit in the sun. Service from reception team and at breakfast was much better than we had experienced at other French hotels whilst on our 2 week road trip.
We stayed for three nights and our room wasn't cleaned once. The staff were so rude and unhelpful. When I complained that our room hadn't been cleaned they just made excuses instead of apologising or fixing the problem. They really don't care about their guests.
We stayed here for three nights last week. Unusual building makes this a great choice from more bland city centre hotels. Our children had a twin bedded room which was spacious with a very good bathroom. Ours was a double with a rather curious arrangement of a shower and washbasin in one corner and a separate toilet at the other side of the room in what we originally thought was a cupboard! This made for an interesting excursion should you need the loo in the night as you had to visit the cupboard then make your way across the room to wash your hands! Not helped by there being a step in the room just outside the loo, so doing this in the dark was fraught with hazards! That aside, the hotel is pleasant, breakfast was quite nice, although they kept running out of items, which then took a long while to replenish! Reception staff varied greatly. Once again, pleasant, but not exactly an enthusiastic welcome. Overall this was fine as a base but the double room was a disappointment.
This hotel is a former church. We liked very much everything ,it is absolutely special even if we did not like the fact that the shower is in fact a corner of the room. But I can understand the reason, I suppose it was not easy to adapt the new with the old. Very rich breakfast ,everything was perfect and the feeling of havig breakfast in the church...this is fantastic. The restaurant is very excusite ,this is a great elegant hotel in the centre of the city. The only negative is relating to the short time park in front of the hotel in order to take out our luggage to the reception. It was only a short stay ,maybe 2 minutes ,but in that short time some of the "good intended" neighbors called the parking inspectors and they gave us a fine of 175 Euro for stopping infront of the hotel. I have to thank that way to the hotel manager, a great person, she took the fine and said that she will take care and that we do not have to be worrird. And she took care , thank you so much! I will definitely return!
We have used this hotel a few times in the past - not in the future. Yet we travel to Poitiers regularly as we have a child who lives near. We booked a two-night stay a month in advance, but immediately discovered there were no flights to return to London on the second day. Called the hotel directly and asked to reduce our stay to one night only. This was refused as we had booked a 'non-cancellation' package. It was just 10 minutes after they made the booking but they were intractable. To add insult to injury we had booked a 'Privilege' room and they put us in a disabled room, charged us the full two days and even the second day's breakfast. Beware of Accor Hotels taking advantage like this. We were miserable.
