Hotel Villa Fontaine Tokyo-Nihombashi Mitsukoshimae3.0 out of 5.0

Hotel situated in great location close to metro stations. Room was very small but expected in Japan. Plenty of hot water and the room was very, very clean. The breakfast consisted mostly of a typical Japanese breakfast but did have cereal and toast for Westerners. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The hotel is very eco friendly. While providing the very basic amenities for the room, they let you take what you need for the room amenities from the lobby, things provided include brush, bath towel scrub, bath salt (various flavors to choose), shiseido facial products in small packaging etc. Breakfast is provided, basic but enough. Housekeeping does a good job and friendly reception. Location is ok. Only complaint is the very small room which is tight for 2, not enough space to open two big luggages but the queen size bed is nice.
Having been to Tokyo many times, and this time, thinking of staying at Nihombashi area, as I enjoyed the environment there a lot (besides shopping area , the bridge, the old shops, buildings....etc). It's just lucky to confirm the room at Hotel Villa Fontaine Nihombashi MitsukoshiMae via online, as the rate was really good. They only got one twin room (unfortunately), so if you're looking for twin bedded room, you may need to book earlier. The hotel is located around 7min walk to Nihombashi station, or around 12min walk to Tokyo station. very good location. It's very easy to get the Keisei Bus from Narita airport to Tokyo station (only 60min, and bus fare only JPY1000), really good deal and easy and quick. Hotel provided free wifi and complimentary breakfast (with hot dishes) and bread, juice, milk, coffee/tea every morning. They also provide free shuttle bus to Tokyo station (only in morning). The stay was comfortable and you'll find it easy to get used to the neighborhood. There's the drinks vending machine in the hotel, as well as coin laundry corner - if you'd like to do your own laundry. I spent the morning of departure day around Mitsukoshi-mae area, and enjoyed a very nice grilled eel (unagi) meal there.
I required the assistance of some incredibly lovely Tokyo locals to help me find this place at night, but it was well worth the effort. Staff were very friendly. Everything in the room was fine, but the decor seems a little dated (lots of dark green). I'd recommend you bring some ear plugs as the walls are thin enough to hear the person in the next room snoring, and the bed in my room was creaky. Complimentary breakfast is good, but doesn't change from day to day. Really good value for money when you take into account what you get and the location.
To praise a 3-star hotel, I can say this nothing more you can expect. Room is tidied-up everyday throughout my 6 nights. With free Wifi and breakfast available, so what else? Although room is slight small, like I said to praise a 3-star hotel like this, it is good enough to relax, sleep, easy, simple and pleasure.
Positives: - good value for money, with breakfast included - good location, within walking distance (10-15 minutes) to 2 subway stations, and to Coredo Nihonbashi Shopping Center, restaurants etc - very friendly staff and 24h front desk (we checked in after 1 AM) - cleanliness - self laundry facilities - vending machine 24h for soft drinks and beer near reception. - no room cleaning before 10 AM Negatives: - small room size (but in line to other downtown hotels in major Japanese cities) - no English channels for the room TV - rather limited range, interval and area for the breakfast (it may get easily crowded) - it may be difficult to locate at first (but showing the Japanese language address should help).
We stayed here for six nights in a double room. This hotel is fine for a longer stay of several days. Our room was spacy and absolutely sound proof ( we stayed on 12th floor). The location is quite central in Chuo/Mitsukoshimae with Tokyo Station at some 800 meters distance. There are several subway stations within a few minutes walk The hotel offers a self serviced laundry and a free shuttle service to Tokyo Station (convenient when you carry luggage). The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. They will bring your luggage to the room if you check-in early and go out to the city. Breakfast is just fine but with only little variation ( orange juice, milk, scrambled eggs, sausages, green salad, toasts, coffee/tea). There are various nice restaurants within walking distance. Small supermarkets are within 3-5 minutes walk open until 10 PM. Excellent and large double bed. Toilet was fine and well equipped. Our room rate was fine for this central part of Tokyo, other hotels in this area were much more expensive. Recommended, AA.
The hotel is location wise quite good, as it is situated near Nihonbashi, historic Tokyo. But the hotel itself is under the bridge, with not a single coffee shop nearby. Also hard to find - I got lost the first time around. The room are normal Japanese hotel rooms, smallish but very tidy and all essentials are there, including the bathrobe. If you want a room with a window that opens, don't go to the 8th floor. They were renovating some rooms. The real minus is the breakfast. Normally in Japanese hotels the breakfast is wonderful, with traditional Japanese food around. This one is youth hostel level, or even below, with corn soup (?) instead of miso soup, so tsukemono that you normally have at Japanese breakfast, no rice, plastic coffee cups.
We booked this hotel for 3 persons (2 adults & 1 child 11y/o). We were surprised that they gave us 2 rooms (1 with full size bed & the other single size). We ended up using 1 room for our suitcases, and sleep at the other room (my husband slept on the floor using bedcover). He said, sleeping on the floor was the same as sleeping on the bed since the bed was as hard as the floor. The hotel itself was clean and nice. They provided good selections for breakfast. It was located in quiet street, and was about 15 minutes walk to the nearest subway station. There's 7/11 by the hotel. Service was kind. They let us leave our suitcases in the morning before check in time and our bags were already delivered to our room when we checked in at night.
We stayed here for 9 nights and found the hotel very comfortable and convenient. It is within walking distance (around 20 minutes) to Tokyo station or 10 minutes to the nearest subway station which is Mitsukoshimae. It provides free breakfast which includes sausages or meatballs, scrambled eggs, green salad, bread, milk, coffee and orange juice. The staff are very helpful and polite. There is a morning free shuttle bus which takes you to the Tokyo station. There are lots of restaurants nearby. We will definitely return.
