We have been here for 2 weeks and are very sad to be leaving today. Either some of the reviews for this hotel are unfair or it has dramatically improved. It is a very quiet hotel but the staff are fantastic, very friendly calling us all by name and treating us like family. Mia, Lana and Sherice in the bar are exceptional. We were lucky to get an all inclusive upgrade so ate at the hotel or Waves beach bar most of the time. The food is very good although portions are massive. Chefs are friendly, in particular Lewis and Carlos and Sandra spoiled our children with extra pizza and brownies. The water is safe to drink from the tap so there's no worries about eating salad or having ice in drinks. The head chef Jason takes time to chat to guests and get feedback. We mentioned that the pool wasn't very clean and ever since we have seen someone early in the morning cleaning it and it has been much better. The hotel is clean and in good condition, a much higher standard than we expected. The beach is amazing, very natural and the waves are fun. Yes there's a few steps to get there but it's not nearly as bad as reviews make out, my 78 year old mother managed it daily without difficulty. Spa treatments were included in our package. These were very well organised and Rodger delivers a very professional, friendly service. We aren't spa people but really enjoyed this. There is a bar just up the road called Moon Over Water that we went to a couple of evenings for a bit of nightlife. This was fun and local people were very welcoming. We did a tour round the Island. The Argyle waterfall is well worth a visit. The roads are very narrow and windy, not good for people who get travel sick. There are some lovely beaches but the one at this hotel is one of the nicest. My husband and 2 boys went scuba diving with black rock divers several times and enjoyed each dive. There are lots of biting insects which are the only downside to Tobago. It's very hot but not as humid as other Caribbean Islands we've been to, we've had little rain. I would highly recommend Tobago and Le Grand Courlan if you want a relaxed, safe and friendly holiday.
Having read some of the reviews on this site we arrived with nervous anticipation. However our fears were entirely unfounded. The hotel was absolutely lovely and the staff wonderful! The reception staff were quite reserved but polite courteous and helpful. On arriving we discovered that our spa treatments had been scheduled for us. All between 10:00 and 11:00 allowing plenty of time for the rest of the days activities. Our room 307 had a beautiful view of the pool and past that the Caribbean Sea, allowing us to enjoy beautiful sunsets. The room was large, clean and has everything we needed including iron and ironing board. We were all inclusive and enjoyed having a fabulous a la carte breakfast, cocktails at the pool bar from 10:00 lunch at Waves on the beach with cocktails and then dinner a la carte back at the hotel. The hotel was lovely but the real assets are the hospitality staff who treated us like old family friends. Helpful, friendly and unstuffy. We would especially like to thank Lana and Mia who truly looked after us so very very well! Our spa treatments were heavenly, mostly delivered by the unforgettable Roger Moor, a true gentleman. Marian in Waves deserves a special thank you too! Yes the hotel was not busy which I cannot comprehend it was wonderful. Relaxed and everything we had dared to dream of.
me and husband decided to spend our one year wedding anniversary at le grand, despite reading some unsatisfying reviews . But to our surprise , the resort was lovely. We stayed in the Delux suits. The view overlooking the pool, and ocean was breath taking.( However the bathrooms could do with a upgrade ). The resort was overall very well kept. We took the all inclusive package which includes alcoholic beverages and all meals . We were quite pleased with the package. The friendly staff was on had to make refreshing cocktails and delicious meals. I was also impressed with how huge the drinks were. The staff knowing it was our anniversary went out of their way to make our stay extra special. They arranged a lovely candle light dinner, decorated the table with flowers and to top it off baked a mini cake saying happy anniversary. Now if that's not service idk what is! I would definitely be returning to the resort and I hope the service remains the same.
Stayed for three nights for class reunion. Had reservations about doing so, but others in the group decided to give them a chance . Property failed on every conceivable issue one can think of. The check in was labored . No bell hop staff . Front desk staff had no clue where room was located. Property is on a slope on three levels . No lifts . Had to roll and lift suitcases myself to room. Air conditioning was not working on checking in. Called front desk who promised to call back . No calls received . Fell asleep in hot humid room. Asked to be relocated . This was granted . Asked for luggage to be transferred to new room for we had to catch bus to go on group Excursion. Came back at 4 pm only to find suitcases were not moved . Had to log these again up staircases myself. Towels provided were old and torn washed out blue and brown . New room toilet smelled of awful sewer smell. No room service . Meal quality very poor . All workers show signs of demotivation and could not care about the needs of the scant number of quests they needed to look after . I suspect the management has a major role to play in this, from the few interviews I conducted with multiple staff categories. The common area and beach furniture and furnishings are all old and need replacement. Pool cushions have fungi growing on them. The buildings are in dire need of painting. Landscape needs total revamp. The bed was unduly stiff and cheap old linens utilized. Guests with mobility concerns would definitely not fear well at this resort. The beach is located across the road from the lowest level of the resort. Beach has a strong undercurrent . Would not recommend for kids or individuals who are not strong swimmers. I suspect this resort may be closing soon. Occupancy was quite low for the three days I spent. I did not do full all inclusive but colleagues who did said they regretted for little choices Offered at premium price. No top shelf drinks on offer. Would definitely never return. Colleagues who stayed at lower priced sister property had a heavier dosage of similar problems I encountered.
We moved to this hotel after a bad experience at our original hotel. We were able to salvage our vacation. The staff was very nice and personable. The pool was beautiful. Rooms were nice with beautiful views. Spa service was good but their dry and moist spas were not working as they were waiting on a part to arrive. Very close to Seahorse restaurant and Fish Pot restaurant.
My partner and I have just returned from a weeks stay at this hotel. We really enjoyed ourselves . We were on a B & B basis and we found the breakfasts to be very good with a varied choice. All of the staff were very helpful and very quick to help if we needed it. Yes, the hotel is very quiet but we personally liked it, no queues, no fighting for sun beds etc. The rooms are kept clean and we had a lovely pool/sea view. We would definitely return if we ever came back to Tobago.
Great hotel, excellent view from room, lovely staff and food. would visit again. we went for a well deserved holiday and really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere at this hotel. Spa treatments were wonderful as was Roger the masseur. Candis in the restaurant was always cheerful and very helpful. Michelle was an asset to this hotel, working in different departments and always making sure the guests were looked after, so much so I enquired if she was the deputy manager. The beach bar was brilliant and food very good, lovely place to sit and sip cocktails!! watching turtles coming up on the beach to lay eggs was a fantastic experience and the humming bird sanctuary is a must. The island tour arranged by Judith was great for seeing all the villages around the island, helped of course by our driver Jonathon. This was a return visit to Tobago and would definitely return. Some members of the reception team could have been a bit friendlier, sometimes didn't acknowledge you but others were great.
I took my two sons to this hotel in spite of some unfavourable reviews. However, our stay was exceptionally good and none of the previous faults were encountered. The staff were attentive and clearly striving to make our stay as welcoming and comfortable as possible. The deluxe rooms we stayed in were superb...I had a problem with the toilet flush in my bathroom...fixed within 20 minutes. The pool, albeit a little scruffy, was attended to most of the time as was the pool bar. The food couldn't be faulted including at Waves Beach Bar where we lunched daily. Anyone who uses this hotel MUST use the Spa facilities, again where we were made extremely welcome. We went on holiday to relax and that is just what we did thanks to the hotel and it's staff. I am a Facilities Manager and can strongly recommend this hotel with confidence.
Only spent a night but service was great. Check-in and check-out were easy, the room was clean and spacious, and the food at Waves was quite good - I had the fish tacos and we ordered 4 desserts as a group and devoured them all. Love the pool area including the raised covered patio with comfy lounge chairs.
I checked in this property on May 25th that was the start of the worse hotel stay of my life. 70 percent of what the hotel offers isn't there. The swim up bar they offer isn't open ever they have the word SPA in their name. They spa isn't open they tell you to call for an appointment but you can't set one. They claim to have shower/tub rooms this also isn't true . The water actually wasn't work one more I woke up . This was a horrible experience for my wife and I
