We had a wonderful stay here. It is a short (10 min) walk to a main bus station and a subway station, so easy to get around. The hotel also has a free shuttle that will drop you off at places in the area (but not pick you up). The restaurant has some very cool food, but is only open Mon-Thurs. Highly recommended.
We had a good stay at royal plaza yet best fit for those who prefers quiet residential area, while for us it is not a convenient location, also the toll is high as you have to cross the bridge to city. Staff were nice and helpful.
The queen room is modern, very clean and comfortable, and well-appointed with a big-screen tv, great reception and an also great selection of current films to buy/watch; the bistro's menu and food is really good, compliments to the chef, the wait staff and competent and friendly reception staff. If you have a car, the location is great - right off the toll-way or an easy drive up the Pacific Hwy coming north over the bridge, with ample parking. I will definitely stay here again when visiting Sydney - a guaranteed relaxing time.
The hotel recently changed hands and the staff is still in a learning process. The location is not great for city center tours, but buses stop right in front, and with only one transfer you are at the City Center. The Artarmon train station is billed as a 4 minute walk, but don't believe it. It is more like 12 minutes up and down hills. Monday thru Friday the hotel offers a morning commute shuttle to the train stations as well.Better to take the bus to St. Leonard's station just a few kilometers down the road and then right into the train station. If you purchase a 1 day or 7 day pass, you get unlimited travel on trains, buses and ferries. A good deal if you are staying out here. Manly is a bus ride away. The restaurant/bar is only open for dinner Monday thru Thursday. Definitely a business oriented hotel, not for tourists.
great for a short stay...located in a nice suburban area
while me and my husband where visiting sydney over the new years celebrations. we decided to stay at this location, since offered what it looked like a 4 star type of accommodation but at a more reasonable price. Sadly this hotel[...] was totally unacceptable. the people at the front desk were rude and improvised. The restaurant wasn't open except for mornings and there was no staff to attend the most basic needs or questions we had. In particular, we requested an earlier check in if possible in the most humble way. The "gentlemen" at the front desk told us in a rude and agressive way. that was not able or possible to do anything other than assist to the check in until 2 pm sharp. which caused us unnecessary embarracemnet in front of other guests.
it was ok service a little lacking i thought i was getting continental breakfast and did not am checking my records to e-mail them back for refund on extra charges i was not told about until we were leaving which was very disappointing to get a bill as we webt out the door we did not expect
Reception: Bad experience at this hotel, would not stay again. The reception desk was not helpful at all -- they did not know any information about how to get around Sydney, how to go to and from the airport. You would think that of all things to know, they would know how to get to the airport via public transportation -- but they did not know anything about fares, transportation times, transfer points. Since Punt Hill hotel is located in North Sydney, it should be very convenient to get to Manly Beach. However, the hotel staff did not know bus information to get there and ended up giving us wrong directions. Location: The hotel is not in a very good location, it is at least 7 mins walk to train station -- which would be fine, but is a bit challenging after a long day and the walk to and from is hilly. Since transportation can be quite expensive in Sydney, just getting to the City Center from the hotel will cost you at least $10.00 -- so the location isn't ideal. Cleanliness: We found a cockroach on our bed on the last day. Even though overall the room was clean, the fact that we found a cockroach makes me question the hotel's sanitation. Overall, I would say that the staff is not helpful, cleanliness is a factor, and the location is not good.
